Stand Up event
@ CU by UNYSAB

TO eradicate poverty from the country as well as from the world, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka and United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) organized a “Stand Up and Take Action” event at the University of Chittagong (CU) along with its CU chapter on October 18, 2009.

A large number of students and teachers joined the initiative to fight poverty. The event saw CU VC Prof Dr Abu Yusuf as chief guest while Pro VC Prof Dr Md Alauddin, Officer in Charge of UNIC Dhaka Dr Kazi Ali Reza, UNIC Dhaka Reference officer Md Moniruzzaman, UBYSAB Executive Vice President Sheikh Mohd. Erfan Uddin and UNYSAB CU Chapter Wing Coordinator Rahat Alam Chowdhury were present as special guests. The speakers urged the necessity to fight against poverty and discussed how students can contribute to make this goal a success.

As a part of the event, speech competition also took place both in Bangla and English where the topic was “UN should follow micro credit model to eradicate poverty”. Abdul Hamid Chowdhury, a 1st year student of Dept. Political Science topped in English category while 3rd year student Shariful Islam of Dept. of Law won in the Bangla speech competition.
