A visit to Ghorashal
Power Station

Astudy tour of IEEE AIUB Student Branch was held on Saturday, 3rd October 2009 at the Ghorashal Power Station, Polash, Norshindi.

42 Members of IEEE AIUB Student Branch gathered in front of AIUB Campus 2 at 9 am in the morning. Jumanah Shireen Khan, Assistant Professor and Dept. Coordinator, Syed Golam Mohammad, Lecturer, and Sabuj Das Gupta also accompanied the students in trip. The team reached at the destination by 12 pm in the afternoon after 2 hours of long journey.

Ghorashal thermal electric power station has 6 generating unit, one of the largest and most efficient power stations in Bangladesh. This unit is financed jointly by Bangladesh and the Russian Federation; it is the hub for electrical and mechanical engineers.

The team was divided into 4 groups with an instructor from the Ghorashal Power Station in each group. The instructor guided the teams through the whole sector and briefed them about the important sections of the station. They also answered all the queries of students during tour.

The study tour was an enlightening trip for the students since power is a viable field of study in Bangladesh. After a successful visit, the team returned to the Engineering Campus at 5 pm in the afternoon. It was indeed a successful and interesting trip.
