Dr. Uttam Kumar Das
THE University of Minnesota Law School's Magazine, Perspective, in its latest Spring 2010 issue has profiled Dr. Uttam Kumar Das, a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow (Fulbright Scholar) for the year 2009-2010 from Bangladesh.
The cover story titled “Rights on Their Side” profiled interests and works of six alumni including Dr. Das who pioneered for the “fight for human rights on U.S. and global fronts.”
He had been affiliated with the University of Minnesota Law School and Human Rights Center in Minneapolis, U.S.A. as a Humphrey Fellow from August 2009 through May 2010. Dr. Das has focused on the issue of labor trafficking-studying related U.S. laws and policies, activities of the administrative, judicial and human rights organizations.
Alongside working for the Fellowship he was also allowed by the Law School to take additional courses and research projects for an LL.M. (Master of Law) with concentration in International Human Rights Law.
Teaching, training and advocacy works,” says Dr. Das. Based on his U.S. experience, he has already started to talk to law schools to introduce clinical legal and human rights education. He is also getting connected with Bangladesh Bar Council, National Human Rights Commission and Law Commission to promote the same.
