Asiatic Events
Asiatic Events, located in Banani, was established in 1997 and since then there was no looking back. As Ms. Sara Zaker said, "Asiatic sees event management as a painting where slowly, sincerely, with love and organisation the artist makes a painting and Asiatic does the same with events".

Over the years the country has seen Asiatic conduct most of the biggest events and simultaneously establish itself as one of the top event management companies of the country. Asiatic, which is a total communication group, has only improved since its establishment and its legacy of hits would include the MiniWorld Cup 1998 where all the test playing nations came to Bangladesh. Asiatic has managed programs with Unicef, Unilever, BAT, UNDP and many other reputed organisations.

They have managed close-up jukebox concerts, brought Adnan Sami to Dhaka, launched books, and they did Sound and Seranade of Bangladesh for BAT. They also, do the Sunsilk Boishakhi Mela, an event where they pick the best girl in terms of hair style and provide them with accolades.

However, their biggest event is definitely the roll in and roll out from 61 districts of the country. Yes, you guessed it right! It's the Lux Anandadhara beauty pageant. It starts with 61 districts and gradually come to the capital city, for the most coveted female crown, and then the crown holder goes to all the 61 districts to share her knowledge and experience. In the process it educates the mass. More importantly it holds the most captive audience following their daughter/sister/beloved to the end.

Our Asiatic correspondent told us that events arrest most captive audience, which is not always possible by print or telecasted advertisements since events are a mode of continuous interpersonal contact with the target audience.

One of the few event management firms to actually offer its own venue, Spectra handles all kinds of events: corporate, cultural, and social. The Spectra Convention Centre has four elegant banquet halls and a business centre, parking space/facilities, and good security.

The firm also offers both Indoors/Outside catering services, with a choice of cuisine from either their in-house Industrial kitchen, or their Bengali kitchen, which is located in the Dhaka Cantonment area.

They also provide logistic support that includes audio-visual equipment, a Corporate Services Booth, and prayer rooms.

The Spectra Convention Centre has already hosted many seminars, conferences and weddings, amongst others, and one of their recent and memorable events happens to be the Bridal Fair, with just about any company even remotely related to anything to do with matrimony putting up a stall.

Spectra Convention Centre is located at House 19, Road 7, Gulshan 1

Nehreen Rahman (Tootlie)
Hers is practically the first name that pops up when there is a social event to be arranged. There can't be many who have not seen her magnificent shamianas, or her elaborate sets and fairy lights.

Tootlie Rahman began her journey into elaborate wedding does a little over a decade back, at a time when a simple stage adorned with streams of flowers were what people could expect at a wedding. She changed all that, with her flowers, her candles and tiny lights, and recreated those exquisite fairytale bowers that every girl dreams of having at her wedding. Since then, weddings have been incomplete without her magic touch. Tootlie Rahman also does the décor and design for other social events such as barbecues, formal parties, reunions, and more. She's even done a few corporate events for companies such as the American Express Bank.

Trying to keep up with the ever-increasing demands for 'something new, something fresh', she now has a fixed team of over 30 to help her with her artistic set design and lighting. Other than weddings, she also offers catering services for parties and small functions, serving a maximum of 200 persons at a time. "It becomes harder to ensure proper quality for a larger group, so at present I don't cater for larger groups, although I may do so in the future."

Besides catering and set design, she also does consultancy about market prices and quality of different caterers and other service providers. If you're planning a large social event, she can guide you and help you find the best value at the most reasonable price.

Rahman also does wrought iron work and pottery, many of these items being incorporated as props for her themed sets. Her wrought iron furniture, pottery, and candles are available at her shop at:

Lisa Mowla
"To taste this lady's shahi tukra is to taste bliss itself" commented one happy guest at a private party. Mowla started her small catering business just a few years back. Initially supplying desserts for private parties, she began to receive larger orders for wedding receptions, gaye holud ceremonies, and other social events.

Many of these orders came from clients who come to her for the decoration of the wedding daalas, or gifts to the bride's family from the groom's family and vice versa. For Lisa Mowla has been dabbling in event management of wedding ceremonies for about as long as she has been catering. Her speciality lies in the decorative baskets and boxes used to carry these gifts, although she's also done a few decorative palanquins and other gaye-holud/engagement props. She tells us she would love to get an opportunity to try a hand at set design. "I'm just waiting for someone to come up and ask me to decorate their venue for them."
