Usmania Glass gives 40pc dividend
Usmania Glass Sheet Factory Limited (UGSFL) approved 40 percent cash dividend for the shareholders for the 2008-2009 fiscal year its 23rd annual general meeting on Friday .

BCIC Chairman KH Masud Siddiqui, also chairman of UGSFL Company Board, while presenting the director's report he briefed the shareholders about production, sales and profit by UGSFL during 2008-2009.

The report showed that UGSFL produced 227.54 lakh square feet of sheet glass against the target of 227.00 lakh square feet, had a sale of 2.25 crore square feet and a profit of Tk 5 crore 57 thousand last fiscal year.

At the meeting the company declared 40 percent dividend, which was approved by the stakeholders.

UGSFL Company Board of Directors Ananda Mohan Mandal, Md Abdul Hamid, Md Rafiqul Islam, Siraj Uddin Haider, Mahboob Hossain, MR Ruskin, Mohammad Sadeque, Azizul Haque Siddique, Managing Director Md Ali Ashraf and Company Secretary Md Golam Moula also attended the AGM.

Medical camps held
Hamdard Laboratories (WAQF) Bangladesh and Lions Club of Chittagong organised separate medical and eye camps to provide free treatment and medicines on the occasion of Victory Day in the port city on Thursday and Saturday.

Hamdard set up 15 medical camps to provide free treatment and medicines to some 2500 poor patients in different areas of greater Chittagong, Chittagong hill tracts and Cox's Bazar on Thursday.

Hamdard set up 160 free medical camps across the country, said a press release signed by Hamdard Chittagong Zonal Manager Md Nasir Uddin Khan.

Meanwhile, Lions Club of Chittagong Progressive Star and Lions Club of Chittagong, Mirer Sarai set up an eye camp at Noiduariadighi on Saturday. Some 2000 patients were examined at the camp while some 170 were referred to Lions Charitable Hospital in the city for surgery and transplantation of lenses.

A discussion was also held where Lions of Chittagong Progressive Star President Nilufar Chowdhury was the chief guest with Kazi Imam Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.

Victory fair held
A victory fair organised by Mohan Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela Parishad kicked off amid festivity and enthusiasm at Patenga Sea beach on Tuesday.

Valiant freedom fighter Taramon Bibi Bir Pratik inaugurated the fair where the freedom fighters from Chittagong 10 constituency were accorded a floral reception.

Parishad Chairman local lawmaker MA Latif, also the president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony where freedom fighters Sheikh Manik and Manzurur Rahman, war organiser Ezhar Mia, Chittagong city Awami League leader Sultan Ahmad and female freedom fighter Alo Rani Boidya also spoke.

Parishad Secretary General Syed Enamul Haq Muniri made the address of welcome.

Chittagong Club office-bearers
An eleven-member committee of Chittagong Club Limited was elected with Prof Dr Saifuddin Md Tareq and Amanullah Al Sagir (Chhuttu) as chairman and vice-chairman respectively.

Dr Tareq was re-elected chairman in the election on Thursday.

Members are Fahim Ahmed Faruq Chowdhury, Engineer Fazle Rabbi Khan Sajjad, Dr Sadique Saifur Rahman, Manjurul Haq Manju, Habibul Haq Tusher, ABM Fazle Hasan Chowdhury Babu, Habib Ahsan Khan Ronnie, Md Shahjada Alam and Dr Alok Nandi.

Zila Parishad training courses conclude
Chittagong Zila Parishad distributed certificates among the participants of training courses under the Women Development and Poverty Alleviation Project here on Saturday.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Md Afsarul Ameen as the chief guest gave away the certificates among participants.

A total of 106 participants of four training courses -- Solar Power Plant, Sewing and Cutting, Boutiques and Block Buttique -- received certificates along with training allowances after successful completion of the three-month courses. Some of them also got self-employment materials like sewing machines and blocks.

Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Md Saifullah and Prothom Alo Resident Editor in Chittagong Poet and Columnist Abul Momen attended as the guests at the ceremony chaired by Zila Parishad, Chittagong Chief Executive Officer Syeda Sarwar Jahan.

Nirapad Sarak Chai executives
A 31-member committee of Chittagong city unit of Nirapad Sarak Chai, an organisation continuing movement to ensure safe road, was formed on Sunday.

Chairman Ilias Kanchon, also an actor, Secretary General Shamim Alam Dipen and Organising Secretary along with other central leaders approved the unit committee.

Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) former first vice-president SM Abu Tayab and Shafiq Ahmed Sajib, a reporter of channel i in Chittagong, were made the president and general secretary of the new committee.
