L-R: Najma Zaman, MehreenPop singer Mehreen will render the song "Tomaro Jiboney Elo Ki Aaji Bujhi Notun Kono Abhishar", originally recorded by 70s' pop sensation Najma Zaman. The performance will be part of the variety show "Rangashala", scheduled to air on ntv this Eid. Hasan Yusuf Khan is producing the programme.
What made her cover a Najma Zaman song?
"Kamal Bhai, Mintu Bhai and others of ntv planned to redo the Najma Zaman hit. They all decided that I should cover the song," Mehreen says.
"I consider it a great opportunity. My uncle, Safat Ali, had written, composed and directed the original. For the Eid-special show, noted director Maksud Jamil Mintu has arranged the music," she adds.
Najma Zaman created one of the first pop bands in Bangladesh. The group called 'Zinga Shilpi Gosthi' was hugely popular back in the day.
