Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, a veteran politician and close associate of Bangaban-dhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died of a massive cardiac arrest yesterday morning at Apollo Hospitals. He was 78.
He left behind his wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday expressed profound shock at the death of the politician.
He was laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard yesterday afternoon.
He played an important role in the democratic movement launched against the Pakistani autocratic regime.
Sirajul Islam was born on April 24, 1933 in Gopalganj.
