Speakers at a meeting held at Mohazonpara here yesterday recalled the glorious contributions of Parbattya Chattagram Jano Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) founder chairman Manabendra Narayan Larma.
The meeting was organised in observance of the 23rd death anniversary of the great indigenous leader. District PCJSS president Rosomoy Chakma chaired the meeting while PCJSS central committee member Sudha Sindhu Khisha was present as chief guest.
During his lifetime, Manabendra fought for establishing basic rights of members of 13 neglected indigenous communities in CHT, speakers said.
The historic Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord signed between the government and PCJSS on December 2, 1997 was also an outcome of his struggle, they said.
They said the Awami League government tried to partially implement the CHT peace accord but the BNP government made no effort to implement it. They also criticised former BNP lawmaker Wadud Bhuiyan and his loyalists for committing various crimes including tender manipulation, misappropriation of government fund during 5-year rule of the BNP-led 4-party alliance rule, they said.
Among others, PCJSS leaders Niranjana Chakma, Buddah Kingkor Chakma and Pahari Chattra Parishad President Ujjal Chakma, Braja Kishore Tripura, Advocate Supal Chakma, Hill Women's Federation president Zarita Chakma and secretary Priyadarshi Chakma addressed.
Earlier, a mourning procession was brought out in the hill town. Several hundreds of processionists paraded the main roads of the town.
