Speakers at a rally here yesterday urged the government to preserve Pahartali European Club as a memorial museum on Pritilata Waddedar, the first woman to embrace martyrdom for the country's liberation from British rule in 1932.

“The club is the testimony of anti-British struggle and should be preserved to spread the history to young generation,” they said, urging to include the biography of Pritilata and other revolutionaries in school textbooks.

Charon Sangskritik Kendra, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front and Samajtantrik Mahila Forum jointly organised the rally at Shahid Minar premises marking Pritilata's 79th death anniversary.

Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam, the forum President Popy Chakma, Ward Councillor Jannatul Ferdous Popy, BSD leader Apu Das Gupta, forum Central Secretary Syeda Parbhin Aktar, Kendra organiser Indrani Bhattacharya Soma and Front Secretary Satyajit Biswas also spoke.

Meanwhile, Shishu Kishor Mela organised a photo exhibition, cultural programme and a discussion at Aparnacharan Balika Uccha Biddaloy and Dr Khastagir Government Girls High School.

Pritilata Trust also observed the day at Dhalghat in Patia upazila where Assistant High Commissioner of India Shomnath Ghose was present as the chief guest.
