Even amidst a year of assassinations and suicide bombings, of price hikes and political in-fighting, there were several bright spots for Bangladesh. The economy is humming along, with record investment, remittances, and export earnings, and our maiden cricket Test victory against Zimbabwe followed by the sensational one-day win against Australia demonstrated the best of Bangladesh and rekindled our faith in the future. As we enter the new year, with elections around the corner, and the nation seemingly paralysed by the terror threat and political stalemate, it is worth recalling the high points of the year. If we continue to stand tall and work together, and continue in the face of adversity to pursue our hopes and dreams, there is nothing we cannot overcome and no pinnacle we cannot reach.
