Dear Readers,

Eid Mubarrak. We hope that we have emerged cleansed spiritually and morally because of the days of abstinence that will also have prepared us to reflect the spirit of this month in our actions and behaviour for the rest of the eleven months of the year.
In wishing you all very happy celebrations it is our pleasure to present you the Daily Star Special Supplement on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. This is the most important of the celebrations of the Muslims all over the world. The day is known by various names in various countries much in the manner that it is celebrated differently in different countries, although the central theme of the day is the spirit of sharing the happiness in the festivity that we partake, with those that are less fortunate than us. In this supplement our focus is, as the name of the supplement suggests, Eid Around the World. We have made an attempt to bring you the different ways in which the day is celebrated in different parts of the Muslim world as also the way that the Muslims living in some non-Muslim countries spend the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. This will, we hope, give you a glimpse of the varied flavour of the day the world over.
I hope you will enjoy our modest attempt.
May this Eid bring you all unbounded joy and happiness.

Mahfuz Anam
