Descending into the depths of the crater, fearless photographer Sergey Krasnoshchekov took these amazing shots of Plosky Tolbachik, an active volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russia. Though its eruptive history stretches back thousands of years, a recent eruption which started on November 27, 2012 had a lava flow that moved so fast that it quickly engulfed some buildings a few kilometres away. The peninsula has a high density of volcanoes and associated volcanic phenomena, with 19 active volcanoes being included in the six UNESCO World Heritage List sites in the Volcanoes of Kamchatka group, most of them on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
