Pink Snow
Snow is not always white! It can be pink, brown, or even red. This pink snow is in Greenland. The color is caused by algae living in the snow. The pigment that makes the algae red also protects them in the extremely cold conditions.
Star Trails
From Earth, the stars appear to spin around two imaginary points in the sky-the north and south celestial poles. This photograph visualizes the movement of the stars as trails in the night sky.
Olympus Moons
The giant volcano Olympus Mons is not only the largest mountain on Mars, but in the whole Solar System. At 700km (435 miles) across and 27km (17 miles) high, it is around three times as high as Mount Everest on Earth.
Axolotl
The axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is sometimes called the “Peter Pan” of the amphibian world because it never grows up. Axolotls are salamanders that come from one particular lake in Mexico. Like many salamanders, they begin life as tadpoles with feathery gills. But instead of losing their gills and taking up life on land, axolotls usually stay in water, and breed without changing shape.
Komodo Dragon
The Komodo dragon (Varanus Komodensis) is the world's largest lizard. An adult can measure 3m (nearly 10ft) from head to tail, and can weigh more than a person. Komodo dragons live on islands in Indonesia, and feed on animals as large as deer.
