Life in IBA

Samira Munir

Welcome to the Lion's Den”- Said one of my seniors when I qualified in the IBA admission exam. With my adrenalin pump working in full swing, I failed to comprehend the statement at that time. But now, after surviving three whole semesters in IBA, I know better. It might sound a little bit clichéd, but life in IBA is a “rollercoaster ride”. With ups and downs in every step of the way, there is no smoother way out.

Surviving the admission test, you start your days in IBA with a complete sense of satisfaction and with no worries. Your life all set and future glowing bright, you start your classes. The first few days are spent making new friends, chatting in the canteen while enjoying “ gorom shingara”, going to TSC much too often, eating khichuri in venal, roaming all around DU campus and the list goes on. Within a few days, there's a new twist in the story. “Fresh crushes on certain senior bhaiyas”- is the hottest topic among Girls. Of course bhaiyas flirting with all their charm with the new faces, contribute greatly to this particular development. Meanwhile, guys are left with no choice but to be happy with their classmates or wait patiently for one whole year for the new faces to arrive.

It's not long before The Glorious Freshers Day arrives, and the friendly seniors are not so friendly anymore. They are all equipped and trained to give you a “HELL” (literally) of a time in Freshers party. Ragging takes a whole new meaning. If you are popular, if you are trendy, or if you have any unusual talent, you will be hunted down. But, I must admit, every body including the Freshers has his/her share of fun. Let's say altogether a bitter-sweet experience. And the good thing is that there's always the next Freshers day or Graduation Party where you are free to take sweet revenge.

Soon the ride starts to become bumpy. With studies standing lonely at the bottom of your priority list, it's not too long before you get the reality check. All of a sudden life takes a new turn. With surprise quizzes, term exams, assignments, presentations, reports all banging on your doors together, you are, let's say doomed.

It's the night before the final exam - studies are now hitting the ceiling of your priority list. Eating, sleeping, drinking, breathing all forgotten you work your bones out. Well, all that pays off, when you come out of the exam hall in one piece, swearing to do better in the next semester, to make studies the top priority permanently.

With each new semester, you prepare for yet another of the cycles of the roller-coaster ride, but each time, with a little more grip on the handles. Each fun-filled yet bumpy ride makes you a little bit more refined and a little bit closer to IBA.

We are happy at City College

Nusrat Hossain

Maybe we do not have a big play ground, open space or various faculties like DU (Dhaka University) or some other private universities, but we do have our small place, own space at the City College, and we are happy about it. The students of BBA, Especially batch 5th , when we started our journey , we all were 'blue' because of not getting chance in DU. At first the small class room was unthinkable but as time went by the small class room no longer seems small to us. It became a family of 80 students who share their thoughts, laughter, and sorrow.

Our BBA curriculum almost has the same course like any other universities. And about our teachers I haven't the exact word in my mind I mean words cannot explain my thoughts. We don't have superb experienced teachers but we do have some brilliant, energetic and awesome teachers who appreciated us, help us in any difficult situation related to our studies or in extra curricular activities. They are always ready for us to guide us and they give us treat with “Rosho Golla” whenever our batch did a brilliant result under NU (National University.

In some course, our dept. invites guest teachers from DU or from some private universities. Seeing us, they all appreciated our effort, and admitted that we are eager to learn and know. I guess it's because sometimes we feel inferior to that of DU's certificate. But I know these feelings will bring our best.

Many of you can say that I am making a comparison between DU with City College. It's not the case actually. I am trying to say that despite of having limitations, students like us who are studying under NU are satisfied, feel nice with what we have , what we are . this article is for those who feel down because of not being a part of DU but NU. Guys out there try harder you will get your reward. Hay lastly we have something in common with that of DU… “Session gap”
