Divisional competition of Chittagong held at CUET

CISCO and Sun Academy is represented in Bangladesh by Jobs ICT Private Limited (JIPL). JIPL arranged a program titled 'Jobs-ICT Roadshow-2007' for the first time in the country. The first divisional program of the Road show was held on 9 and 10 February at Chittagong. The venue was Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET).

CISCO has ten centers in Bangladesh. Besides Dhaka there are four centers outside the city. JIPL is going to arrange Road show in other centers and centrally they are arranging a national competition. The Director of JIPL Elli Takagaki commented at the closing ceremony, 'We are trying to organize Road show at all the local centers of CISCO'.

About IT Elli said, now development of any country depends on the IT sector. The country which can develop its IT sector will have a healthy economy'. The two-day long program was filled with different types of competitions like computer networking, programming, typing & gaming.

Who goes to Dhaka?
The prize winners in Chittagong will attain the national competition which will be held in Dhaka. The prize winners are Tahmina Tazrin (1st prize) in computer networking, 2nd-Umma Homaira Poni and 3rd-Upal Das. In computer programming 1st prize went to 'CUET Orchid' team. Team members of CUET Orchid are Anik Saha, Mostofa Rezwan and Chinmoy Kanti Dhar. 2nd prize was bagged by 'CUET Old Sailor team. Team members of CUET Old Sailor are Md. Rezwan Salam, Md. Nazmul Kibria and Tanvir Mahmood. 3rd prize was bagged by 'CUET Agrodut' team. In gaming competition 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were taken by Md. Tahsiqul Alam, Md. Rezwan Salam and Syed Imran Hossain. In Typing competition 1st prize went to Md. Rezwan Salam and 2nd
prize to Upal Das.

School of Public Health, BRAC University Graduate Forum 2007

The BRAC University James P Grant School of Public Health organized the Second Graduate Forum for the MPH graduating class of 2006-7 at Sasakawa Auditorium, ICDDR, B on 3 February 2007. Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdury, Vice Chancellor of BRAC University chaired the Forum. Dean of the School of Public Health, Dr AMR Chowdhury gave the welcome address. Professor David Sack, Executive Director of ICDDR,B also spoke on this occasion. Dr Demissie Habte, International Director of the School of Public Health delivered the keynote address. He congratulated the students, and stressed the importance of maintaining the school as a centre of excellence and the need to have an active staff development programme.

The Chair of the Forum, Vice Chancellor, Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury gave his concluding remarks. There were some selected presentations by students on their Independent Study dissertations, a final requirement of the MPH degree. The presentations by the students shared findings mainly from Bangladesh on food adulteration, malnutrition among street-kids in Dhaka, mental health of two communities in Matlab, and health seeking behaviour of disabled persons. There were also two presentations from India and Bolivia respectively, women's delivery experiences in Mumbai and malnutrition of children in El-Alto.

There was an Awards ceremony for best over all performance and best dissertation. The final session of the programme was the Poster Presentations of students' thesis on the rooftop of the Sasakawa Auditorium.

Discussion on Micro-credit at RU IBA

Students of MBA day batch of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Rajshahi University organized a opinion exchange meeting with Thangamara Mahila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS) and Director professor Dr. Hosne Ara Begum on 'Micro Credit Programme' at IBA seminar room. IBA teachers also attended the discussion.

TMSS director Professor Hosne Ara said, micro credit programme has been playing significant role for poverty alleviation and socio-economic development of marginal women of the country.

In the discussion meeting, IBA director Professor Mohsin-Ul-Islam, programme chairman Dr. Akhter Uddin, assistant Professor Hasnat Ali and TMSS health department joint director Dr. Matiur Rahman spoke on the occasion.

The Division of Students Activities (DoSA) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) arranged a day long event on IUB campus on 13th February this year to celebrate pohela falgun. A concert in which students played music and sang to the popular tunes of the day was organised. Many of the faculty members were also seen in the audience taking a break from the ordinary and enjoying the music on the first day of spring. Though the day brought little sunshine and much rain the mood of the students and faculty alike were nowhere close to being gloomy. On campus, the dress code of choice was kurta by the boys and saree by the girls, all in bright colors which highlighted the cheery mood and the joyful atmosphere. All in all, the event was well organized and enjoyed by all as everyone came together to celebrate Pohela Falgun.


BUBT freshers' reception

A reception ceremony for the newly admitted students of MBA Programme of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) was held on January 26, 2007.

Abul Hashem Khan, Deputy Managing Director, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, was the chief guest on the occasion. He highlighted the importance of MBA Programme in building the future career of the students.

The students were informed about the rules and regulations related to studies at BUBT. The newly admitted students also spoke about their feelings regarding the academic atmosphere of the university.

Prof Dr Shafiq Ahmed Siddique, the Syndicate Member of BUBT, was the special guest on the occasion.Prof Md Ali Azam, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, presided over the ceremony.


Street drama at RU

Anushilon Drama Group of Rajshahi University yesterday staged a street drama titled "Sangcromon" (Infection) at the University Central Shaheed Minar premises.

Sangcromon has been written and directed by the drama group's chairman Professor Moloy Kumar Bhowmik. Members of the Anushilon drama group performed in the drama.

'Sangcromon' is a drama that presents the corruption amongst in students, teachers and national politics in Bangladesh. The drama was also staged at the folklore department premises the same evening.


Faculty of Business of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged Annual Picnic 2007

Faculty of Business of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged its Annual Picnic 2007 at Angana Estates under Kapasia Thana in Gazipur District.

Students along with the Vice-Chancellor Professor. Dr M Shamsul Haque, Dean Professor Dr M Azhar-ud-Din, Registrar Md Solaiman Miah, Director Human Resources Division Md Lutfor Rahman, Deputy Registrar Md Faizullah Kawshik and other faculty members left for Angana Estate at about 8:00 in the morning and reached at the spot at 11:00 noon.

Students and faculty members organized sports, games and cultural show at the spot.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque distributed prizes among the winners and participants.

A cultural function was held after the distribution of prizes which was participated by Ms Shamsunnahar, Salehin, Lutfor Rahman, Sultan Ahmed, Sazzadul Karim, Jesmin and many others.


Orientation Program, Spring-2007 at Leading University, Sylhet

A colorful Orientation Program, Spring 2007 was held at Leading University, Sylhet marking the freshers' reception on 12th February at its newly inaugurated Rabeya Khatun auditorium. Dr. SMA Faiz, Vice -Chancellor, University of Dhaka addressed the function as the chief guest. Among the special guests were Professor Dr. M Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Major General (retd.) Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, Principal, Ragib-Rabeya Medical College, Sylhet, and the Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sylhet, Professor Dr. SM Abdul Khaleque. The program was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of Leading University Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam.

The program was followed by a vibrant cultural show performed by the university students under the supervision of lecturer Shohas Dutta.


BRAC University Cafeteria Pitha Uthsob

Winter in Bangladesh is never complete without the exquisite cuisine of pithas, traditional cakes in this part of the world. For some, the very mention of winter invokes images of sitting around the oven in morning, enjoying hot pithas and tea with friends or family. Even in the concrete confines of private universities, people do all they can to enjoy this traditional delicacy. In this vain, the management of BRAC University Cafeteria organized a pitha utshob complete with decorations and plates made of authentic leaves, fashioned like the ones we see in rural Bangladesh. The items on offering were: Patishapta, Bhapa, Chitoi, Dudh Chitoi, Chita Rooti, Nokshi pitha and Poa pitha. The students and faculty members thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and were seen relishing the dishes amidst great festivity.


AIUB 1st Comilla Regional Debate Workshop 2007

The AIUB 1st Comilla Regional Debate Workshop 2007 was held on 10th February at the Comilla Town Hall. In the event more than 700 students took part from 70 institutions from Comilla region in the day long workshop which was arranged by National Debate Federation Bangladesh with the assistance of Victoria College Debating Society. This was one of the notable events arranged by NDFBD as for the first time so many students participated in the workshop. The workshop included debating and public speaking coaching sessions, model parliamentary debate, fun debate and movie show. The district commissioner of Comilla inaugurated the workshop.


8th Batch Rag, Dept. of Management Studies, DU

The students of 8th Batch, Department of Management Studies, University of Dhaka, have celebrated their BBA Completion Ceremony (Rag day) with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm on 10th February, 2007. Most of the students of the batch participated in the day-long fête.

With the presence of Dr. Md. Serajul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, DU, 8th batch students started the well-planned celebration. After an in-house opening with a big size cake, a vibrant rally with colorful placards and festoons was brought out and moved around the whole DU campus, notifying everyone about their BBA completion.

The lively cultural program began at TSC auditorium at 2:30 pm. Professor Abu Saleh, Chairman, Department of Management Studies inaugurated the function.
