International Mother Language Day Observed at Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College

The people of Bangladesh along with the member countries on UNESCO observed Amar Ekushey or The International Mother Language Day with great enthusiasm. Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU) has taken different programmes to observe the day.

In the morning Mahmudul Hassan, the Secretary of BNCU, Mahbubuddin Chowdhury, Secretary General of Unesco Club Dhaka , Subrata Kumar Das, Coordinator of Unesco Club of Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College paid tribute by placing wreaths at the Shahid Minar.

The long rally was attended by a huge number of teachers and students of Bishrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College.


BRAC University Cultural Club celebrates Pohela Falgun & Valentine's Day

The young talents of BRAC university organized a dazzling program on the 18th dedicated to Pohela Falgun and Valentines Day. Tahmid and Rupom were the two heads behind the event. The performers were mainly Freshers. A combination of old Bengali songs, band songs and gazals held the crowd spellbound throughout the show. The young performers Tonima, Maria, Kalyan, Rocky, Nazia, Tilottama, Rafa, Sadia, Saquib, Sadat, Ovi, Robin, Upam, Tahmid enticed the audience to rock with the tunes and create an amazing ambience in the indoor games room while they sang Krishno pokhho, Jodi shurer dolate, bioscope, Bella Bosh……. and many other mesmerizing numbers.

BRAC cultural club is looking forward to do more shows featuring the young crowd or freshers in the years to come.


Celebrating Pohela Falgun at NSU

It was 'pohela falgun', the first day of spring and it was celebrated with lots of colour at North South University (NSU).

Boys wore yellow panjabi while most of the girls wore yellow saree with their hair adorned with 'gada phool'. North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS) made a lot of preparations to celebrate the day. The first thing on their list was a rally, 'Boshonto Shobhajatra'. Everyone carried colourful models of masks, fishes etc. After the rally, students danced in front of SPZ with the beats of 'dhol' and flute. After a break of few minutes, the 'Boshonto Mela', was held at BTA 100.

Here's wishing all the readers of Star Campus a very happy falgun.


Presentation at the World Bank Office by UODA

On Tuesday, February 6, 2007 BBA 5th Batch students from the University of Development Alternative (UODA) visited the World Bank Office. They were accompanied by their course teacher Mr. Siddique Hayat Khan. The program began with an introduction by Mr. Rezwan, Senior Communications Officer of the World Bank. He spoke briefly on the World Bank's effort in disseminating information through the Public Information Center (PIC). He encouraged everyone to make full use of its resources in carrying out research study.

Mr. Siddique Hayat Khan, Lecturer of UODA made a presentation on the course titled “International Financial Institutions (FIN-405)”. Every student doing their major in Finance has to take this course at their eleventh semester. Students of this course are given idea on the pegged (fixed) exchange rate mechanism introduced by IMF, how it worked, its shortcomings, and why most countries gradually discarded this system.

Ms. Rehnuma Amin, Program Officer of the World Bank spoke on different activities of the World Bank in Bangladesh, major projects undertaken in Bangladesh, its Country Assistance Strategy (CAS), project life cycle, and project appraisal.

At the end of the program, students of UODA offered a vote of thanks to the World Bank Office for the wonderful presentation.
