1st Rotaract Inter University Debate in Sylhet
The Rotaract Club of Sylhet Surma, from 16-20 February, organized the first Inter-University debate in the Sylhet division. A good number of teams participated from Sylhet International University, Metropolitan University, Leading University, Shahjalal university of Science and Technology, Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College, Sylhet Osmani Medical College, Sylhet MC College and MM College Sylhet. First round, Semi-final and Final were respectively held in Metropolitan University, Sylhet International University and Leading University.
Dr. Kabir H. Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor of Metropolitan University, inaugurated the program. Rtr. Dewan Mohiul Alam Chy Mahdy, President Rotaract Club Sylhet, Surma expressed his warm feelings and mentioned that it is in the high spirit of Rotaract to arrange this vibrant Debating War. He also briefed about upcoming events like new generation conferences, Film festivals, dental camp and so on. Event Chairman Rtr. AQM Hafiz Ahmed urged the debaters to work hard and think logically even in their daily lives.
UGC team visited NUB Khulna Campus
The three-member University Grants Commission (UGC) team headed by its chairman Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman visited the Khulna Campus of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB). They also inaugurated its second academic building and the permanent Khulna campus of the university stressing the need for higher education to face global challenges of the country.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Majid Sharani Road near Sonadanga in Khulna metropolitan city with M Abu Bakar Siddique, Treasurer of the NUB in the chair.
The UGC members Professor Dr. Tareque Shamsur Rahman, Professor Dr. Ahsanul Haque, NUB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M Shamsul Haque, Khulna University vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, National University Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sayed Rashidul Hasan, Director Md. Lutfor Rahman of NUB Acting Director of Private University Affairs of UGC Md. Khaled spoke at the function.
The UGC members and Chairman also visited different faculties of the NUB.
Info-tech Carnival-2007 at Southeast University
Southeast University Computer Club (Succ) organised a 3-day long "Info-tech Carnival-2007" in the SEU Hall Room. Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University Professor Dr. M Shamsher Ali was the Chief Guest in the program. Professor Dr. RI Sharif, Md. Aftabuddin Khan and Mr. Shahriar Monzoor, Chairman CSE & ICE department also attended the program.

Workshop on debate
Aminul Islam Mymensingh Debate Federation (MDF) organized a daylong workshop on English Debate with the slogan "It is not too late to seek a newer world" at Beg International School, on February 17. Local World Vision HIV/AIDS project rendered assistance for the workshop. Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) AHM Ruhul Islam was the Chief Guest while former Headmaster of Harekrishna High School Subodh Ranjan Dev and Principal of Beg International School Jahangir Md. Farid Khan were the special guests. Md. Ziaul Haque Sheikh of Dhaka University Debating Society, Rabiul Islam and Mehdi Hasan were the resource persons. Prof. Humayan Kabir of English Department of Govt. Mominunnessa Girls' College was the moderator of the workshop.
In the evening, certificate distribution ceremony was held with Prof. Humayun Caber, an adviser of MDF, in the chair. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Awl of Bangladesh Agricultural University was the Chief Guest while Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sadar Upazila Manjur Md. Shahrier was the special guest.
Southeast University celebrated Valentine's Day and Falgun
On a cloudy morning of February 14, 2007, the Department of English of Southeast University (SEU) celebrated Valentine's Day and ushered the season-king, Spring. Professor M Abdul Baten, Chairman, Department of English, along with other colleagues of the Department, joined the program that started with a modern song performed by a 3rd semester student, Janet. Then came Taskina with another song, "My heart will go on.
Mahboob, Nayan, Safayet and others came on the dais and performed their pieces. The program ended with the awarding of best-dressed person (female) prize to two 3rd semester students Sagufta and Zebin, who really took the trouble (or pleasure) of being ornate in their outfits. And as there was no competitor to claim the same award for male, Mr Rajib Ahmed, Lecturer and Coordinator of the Department of English, helplessly pocketed the prize as he happened to be the only person wearing a Panjabi that day. The pleasant morning ripened into a brownish afternoon when all were treated to light refreshment followed by a movie show. At the end, everyone equivocally agreed that the day spent in joy and merriment would be a day to remember!
Workshop in Management Studies department, CU
Mayeen Uddin Ratan Management Debating Club launched a thematic workshop on debate and presentation at Management Studies Department of Chittagong University last 14 February. The Chief Guest for the program was Prof. Dr. M. A. Taher, Chairman of the Department, while Club President Mr. M.A. Samad Hemel was in the chair. The others attending included: Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Mamun, Prof.Dr.Moazzem Hossain, Professor Abu MD. Atiqur Rahman. Md. Mayeen Uddin Ratan, the General Secretary of the Management Debating Club, conducted the whole programme.
The daylong program was divided into parliamentary debate, UN debate, three dimensional debate (Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis) and presentations.
Eastern University observes February 21
To observe 21st February and International Mother Language Day, the Eastern University Cultural Club arranged a discussion and cultural program on February 17, 2007. Prof Dr. M Asaduzzaman, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof Dr. Rahim B Talukdar, Vice Chancellor, Eastern University presided over the discussion while Mr. Abul Quasem Haider, Chairman, Eastern University Foundation was the guest of honor. The speakers emphasised on the significance of Ekushey and reiterated the need to imbibe all with the true sprit of the day. The discussion was rounded off with a cultural programme participated by students of all departments.
Freshers' welcome programme at EWU
The Pharmacy Club of the Department of Pharmacy of East West University (EWU) along with the support of the teachers and senior students of the department organized a grand welcome programme for the Pharmacy freshers' of Spring 2007 semester on 12 February 2007.
The event started with Shuvro Chowdhury, President EWU Pharmacy Club delivering his speech. Following this Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain, Faculty, Department of Pharmacy, EWU and Saquiba Yasmin, Moderator of EWU Pharmacy Club addressed the audience. Mr. Zillur Rahman, host of one of the most popular talk shows on TV, Tritiyo Matra, was present on the occasion as the special guest.
Respected faculty members including Mr. Atiqul Haque Pathan, Mr. Shukumar Bepari, Ms. Farhana Rahman, Ms. Sufia Islam, Mr. Achinto Shaha. Mr. Biplob Kumar Das were also present on the occasion.
To round the programme off Shiplu, Nishat, Sazzad, Arifa, Mokaddes, Anusha and others presented a cultural programme. Next, 'The Fusion' presented some popular numbers.

NSU organises 9th South Asian Management Forum (SAMF) North South University (NSU), Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) and Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) jointly organized a two-day conference of 9th South Asian Management Forum (SAMF) in Dhaka from 24 to 25 February 2007. The inaugural ceremony of 9th South Asian Management Forum (SAMF) on "Management for Peace, Prosperity and Posterity" was held on 24 February 2007 at 09:00 AM in the Ball Room of Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
Dr AB Mirza Mohammad Azizul Islam, Advisor to the Caretaker Government, Ministries of Finance, Planning, Commerce, Post and Telecommunication was present as Chief Guest in the inaugural ceremony. Dr Syed Zahoor Hassan, President AMDISA and Vice Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences were present as Special Gust. Dr Hafiz GA Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor of North South University (NSU) presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Some 75 papers from the SAARC region and Australia, UK, Thailand and Singapore were presented in various sessions chaired by distinguished researchers and professionals.
The focus was on contemporary business issues and significance of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility in promoting peace and prosperity in the region.
Cricket tournament at ADUST
Atish Dipankar University of Science & Technology (ADUST) organized Intra-Cricket Tournament 2007. The Tournament was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, ADUST Prof Dr. Anwara Begum on 15.02.2007 at Banani Chairmanbari playground. Dr Kabir Hossain Talukder, Registrar, Mr. Ariful Bari Majumder, Director, Mr. Shakil Huda, Coordinator, Business School, Mr SAM Matiur Rahman, Coordinator, Computer Science Dept Mr. Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Taslim Arif, Advisers of Adust sports Club, Mr. Sohel Al Beruni, Assistant Registrar and Mr Saifur Rahman, Public Relations Officer were present with Vice Chancellor in the inauguration ceremony.
Mr. Hares, Mr. Mehedi Joarder, Mr Zari Nadim and Mr Sumon the President, Secretary Vice President and Treasurer of the Adust sports Club respectively arranged the tournament. The final tournament was held at Gulshan Youth Club Play Ground on 24.02.2007.
