Pearl Fashion Institute-Scales New Heights
The Pearl Fashion Institute, Dhaka became the first institute dealing with the garment sector to become validated by Nottingham Trent University, UK to allow students to be able to get Foundation Degrees of a Foreign University while studying in Dhaka.
The two courses for Fashion Designing-Clothing Technology and the Fashion Merchandising-Production Technology courses have been specially created by the highly qualified expatriate Faculty members, for the Bangladesh RMG industry. A high level validation team consisting of 4 members of the Nottingham Trent University Board flew down specially to PFI-Dhaka for the assessment and the capabilities of the Institute to ascertain whether it had the infrastructure, environment and the faculty resource to be able to deliver the courses.
NTU has very stringent Academic standards, which are governed from UK. The PFI team was not only able to get an unconditional approval of their course curriculum but also received 6 commendations from the NTU Board members. The NTU team had special praise for the Faculty and the PFI team and were Delighted to see PFI's commitment and the vision towards the educational development aimed at the Bangladesh garment industry.
Pearl Fashion Institute with the support of GTZ Progress have initiated middle management training programs and workshops for two of the International brands for productivity, quality control and social compliance issues. PFI intends to run these workshops on a regular basis from Jan 2007. An international expert has also been sponsored by GTZ to assist in the workshop.
The first batch of students of the Institute will be passing out in March 2007 and have already been selected by leading buying agencies and exporters to join them once they graduate. The Institute will be opening their admissions in Jan 2007 for the next batch of students, who will be now eligible to join the Nottingham University degree course. PFI will have regular international faculties visiting them to interact with students almost all year round. The facilities at the Institute have been further upgraded to maintain its truly international class.
