Amar Ekushey observed in Sweden

Like every year, International Mother Language Day is observed with respect in Stockholm, Sweden to recall the supreme sacrifice made by the language martyrs. This year, in the morning, the International Mother Language Day observing committee built a replica of the original Shahid Minar in the heart of Stockholm called T-Centralen. With the song “Amar bhayer rokte rangano” the probashi Bangladeshis came with wreaths of flowers and placed them at the Shahid Minar. Among others, the ambassador of Bangladesh to Sweden, members of the organizing committee Alamin Babu, Arif, Khoka, Mehrab, Shakil, Monir, Sobuz, Maksud and Anwar were there to organize the event successfully.

Farewell at Notre Dame College

Notre Dame College held the farewell of batch 2007 students on 14th of February. The day was marked by addresses by NDC principal Fr. Benjamin Costa, C.S.C and the senior teachers of the college, wishing the very best to the outgoing students. Dr Kamal Hossain, also an ex-Notredamian was invited as the chief guest for the occasion and he delivered an inspiring speech.

A prize giving ceremony followed the addressing session, where special prizes were awarded under: Best Performance, Extra-curricular Activities, and Perfect Attendance categories achieved throughout the whole academic course at NDC.

After that the students were called to their respective classes, where the final progress reports were distributed. Light refreshments then followed with everyone biding goodbye to the good old premises of the college, and of course to friends.

Biotech program at TSC

The students of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department of Dhaka University arranged a program on the 5th of March at TSC auditorium. They focused on the hot topics of biotechnology like how it can change life and make a better future for the mankind. The theme of the program was “ genetic engineering: close to human and life”. The keynote speaker was Dr. Anwar Hossain, honorable Dean, faculty of biological science; DU. He gave a speech on “the biosensor for pesticide detection in vegetables and fruits in Bangladesh”. In the auditorium, there were four stalls focusing on recent happenings in the field of bioscience. Students also talked about the pros and cons of cloning, GM crops, gene therapy, drug discovery and the prospects of this brand new branch of science in our country.

Blood Donation Program at East West University

A daylong blood donation program for Spring Semester 2007 was held on February 28, 2007 at the ground floor of the Foundation Building of East West University.

The Medical Center, Social and Environmental Club and Rotaract Club of East West University in collaboration with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society organized the program. Mr. Jalaluddin Ahmed, President, Board of Directors, inaugurated the program. Dr. Mohammad Musa, Acting Vice Chancellor and Mrs. Suraiya Ahmad, Joint Registrar, East West University were also present.


Training programme for HSC passed students at PUB

School of Business Administration, Peoples University of Bangladesh (PUB) held a fifteen day training titled ''English for Business''. The programme started on February 28. The chief guest at the inauguration ceremony was Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, chief editor and managing director, BSS. The programme was presided over by Prof. Dr MD. Mainul Islam, Vice Chancellor (acting), PUB.


Annual Merit Awards at Rifles College

Many students were awarded for academic excellence and cultural performance! So many artistes of different ages! So many events! The spacious Darbar Hall of Peelkhana was the venue for the whole programme.

It was the Annual Merit Awards Distribution and Cultural Function of Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College, and it was held on 5th March.

Brigadier General S M Golam Rabbani, Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Rifles and Vice Chairman of the College Governing Body, was present as the Chief Guest.

The function was held in two different phases. In the first phase, the awards for academic excellence and cultural activities were distributed by the Special Guest Nasima Rabbani.

In the second phase, students of the institution exhibited a colourful cultural performance, which enchanted the audience. Their dances, music and recitations were really praiseworthy.


Seminar on Tourism Training & Employment at Northern University

A seminar on Tourism Training and Employment was recently held at Northern University. Chief guest of the event was Bazlur Rashid Chowdhury, President of Bangladesh-UK caters association (Bang-UKCA). He said “ There is a great opportunity of employment for the skilled manpower of our country at the tourism sector and at restaurants in United Kingdom (UK)”. He also said “ Bang-UKCA has planned to set up an institute in Bangladesh in collaboration with the Northern University Bangladesh to train local manpower.”

The seminar was presided over by Professor Ahsanullah, coordinator of the department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, NUB. Also present at the occasion were M. Azhar Uddin, dean, Faculty of Business; Prof. Abdur Razzaque, former Pro Vice Chancellor, Open University and others.

CELP Programme at Southeast University

Southeast University (SEU) has recently launched CELP (Certificate in English Language Proficiency) programme for the freshers of all departments. The programme is run by the English language institute (SEU) under the school of Arts and Social Sciences. The programme is divided into two parts. CELP-1 and CELP-2.

The programme aims at improving the English communication skills of the students. It is a mandatory course.


Education fair at International Training Center (ITC)

A two-day education fair was recently held at the International Training Center (ITC) at Bashundhara residential area to promote various programmes offered by the institution.

The center provides academic and professional qualifications, which include O'level package, IELTS preparation, Kids computing, Spoken English course, computer course and IT courses for nurses.


Orientation of BBA 15th Batch(IBA) held

The prestigious business school of the country IBA welcomed their new BBA batch through a colorful orientation program on 27 February. The Pro-VC of University of Dhaka Prof. A .F .M. Yusuf Haider, Director of IBA Prof. Dr. Muhammad ZiaulHaq Mamun, BBA program chairperson of IBA Prof. Dr. A K M Saiful Majid, Associate Prof. Syed Munir Khasru, Lecturer Homayara Latifa Ahmed and other respected faculty members of IBA were present on the occasion.

The whole program was divided into two parts. The first part included introductory presentation about IBA and speeches from guests.

In the second session, the honorable BBA program chairperson Prof. Dr. A K M Saiful Majid described the different aspects of BBA program to the students. There was a speech from the hostel warden, and individual introduction by students. After that, the new BBA (15th) batch was taken to a tour of IBA. They were taken to IBA computer center, IBA library and other significant places.

Finally, students were introduced to the debate club. The program was organized by the senior batches of IBA.

Certificate distribution at OMNI School of Music

Certificate awarding ceremony of Omni School of Music was held on 2 March. The chief guest on the occasion was head of delegation of the European Commission to Bangladesh Dr Stefan Frowien. He presented the certificates among the students. The managing director of Omni School of Music Neo G Mendes and musician Fuad Naser Babu were also present.


Merit Scholarship Awarding Ceremony at EWU

The Merit Scholarship Awarding ceremony of East West University for Spring Semester 2007 was held on Thursday March 1, 2007 at 11:00 am at the University auditorium.

Professor Dr. M. Asaduzzman, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh graced the program as the Chief Guest and distributed certificates amongst the merit scholarship awardees. He praised the efforts of East West University in maintaining quality education.

Mr.Jalauddin Ahmed, President, Board of Directors, East West University was the Program Chair.

Dr. Mohammad Musa, Acting Vice Chancellor, greeted the Merit Scholars of this semester. Mrs. Suraiya Ahmad, Joint Registrar of the University gave the vote of thanks on the occasion. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Founder Vice Chancellor and Deans of the faculties, faculty members and guardians were also present on the occasion.


Intl. advisor at Eastern University

Professor Dr Glen Witter of the University of British Columbia, Canada also the international advisor of Eastern University and Arry Abrilio are visiting Bangladesh as ADB consultants. They met with the members of the Board of Governors to discuss the progress of the university.
