Amar Desh, Tomar Desh BANGLADESH, BANGLADESH!!!
The whole nation of the cricket-crazy Bangladeshis came down to the streets on the night of 7th April when the Bangladesh Cricket Team brought the mighty South Africans(currently ranked as the number one team in the World) down to Earth in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game. But then again, the frequency at which Bangladesh is defeating the big teams, one after another; it can't really be called an upset rather a consistent improving performance by a team whose average age is only 23 years!
We, at BRAC University, brought out a colourful procession to celebrate this great victory, just like we did on the day when India was brought down in this World Cup. We carried a huge flag (more than 20 feet long) while shouting slogans for our team and went through different streets near our campus at Mohakhali, the passersby and the gathered crowds joining their voices with us.
This is how some young Bangladeshis from different parts of the world expressed their opinions on this great achievement:
From BRAC University
Tamara Zaman, Student:
“"Bangladesh put on a BRILLIANT performance. They exceeded everyone's expectations and really made us proud". With a beaming face, she went on to add her cheers to the team : “Go Tigersss!!! - let's wave our flags highhh"
Rumel, Student :
“Having defeated the world's currently strongest team, our Bengal tigers have proved that they are not inferior to anyone. BANGLADESH, no matter what anyone says...I LOVE U AND YOU ARE THE BEST! KEEP ROCKING!”
Abir Chowdhury, Student:
“It was meticulous; BD beat SA fair and square ; they were all over”
Faisal Waheed, Student:
“I'm speechless man...they did very well in every section....batting, bowling and fielding....i'm proud to be a witness of this match….i'm proud to be a Bangladeshi”
Sonia Sharmin, Lecturer : “I AM EXCITED AND HAPPY ”
Students from Elsewhere
Tanvir Manzoor Hussain, USA:
“This is a proud moment for every Bangladeshi; we can now beat any team in the world on a particular day; and we can now dream further and higher than ever before!”
Naved Zaman, Canada:
“Bangladesh fought the South Africans like the 300 Spartans fought the Persian army..only in this battle the Spartans won”
Tasneem Labiba from North South University has put it short and precise :
“AWESOME!!!”
Young Professionals
Imran Chowdhry a young and budding Business Executive has added his sharp sense of humor with the comment:
“Bangladesh Tigers Roaring with Pride... India for breakfast...South Africa for lunch...Who's next for dessert?'
Raffat Zerin, Banker:
“Spectacular Royal Bengals! Proud to be a Bangladeshi once again !!!
Shahid M Asif, Software Engineer:
“Once again BD proved that confidence is everything”
Everyone's extremely delighted and so am I. My heartiest Congratulations to the National Cricket Team and just like every other Bangladeshi supporter I wish them Best of Luck from the core of my heart for this World Cup and beyond that.
