Md Badiuzzaman Tamal

Winning against the mighty Indians was like a dream come true! No, not really. Rationally speaking, our tigers played sensible cricket, which gave India an abrupt shock. In other words, Bangladeshi cricketers had a game plan and fought bravely till the last minute. This unexpected defeat from the tigers resulted in great misery for India, as they were out from the world's most prestigious cricket event. The Indians sure would have loved to kiss the world cup trophy this time around, but the defeats against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka sent them home straightway. Kissing the trophy has become a dream. No one can term this win over India as a stroke of luck. However, since then what actually went through these young and talented Bengali tiger's minds? Are they overwhelmed? Is defeating India the final encounter for Bangladesh? Those questions seem to press us ever since Bangladesh lost against the Giant Aussies and then the Kiwis. We have had wins against both Australia and the Kiwis. The win over New Zealand came very recently, although in an unofficial warm-up match. We expect our cricketers to play well. It's not a question of winning against the mighty cricketing nations; rather we desire to witness intelligent and sensible performance from these young fellows. The two recent defeats may have trembled the tigers in an unwanted way. However, in spite of that, let the tigers learn from their mistakes and recover in the shortest possible time. Let the tigers battle accordingly in the forthcoming match against another giant cricketing nation 'The Proteas', who never give away anything. Cricket happens to be an event of uncertainty. We look forward to winning at least one more world cup match over Ireland. But let's not underestimate the ecstatic young lads in green. From what we have seen so far, Ireland has the ability to change the momentum and give the tigers a scare. Bashar's boys better watch out! We have already lost the first two of the super eight matches. Looks like Bashar's men are in the middle of nowhere and letting go. It's beyond question that defeating the giants is really tough at this stage, but a little more courage and confidence and an appreciable performance with reasonable run rate would make us look a bit better. Finally, I personally feel that the tigers will play rationally in the near future with the gradual development of maturity and increasing demand and hopefully give us a worthwhile place in cricket history. I thank all the cricketers for gifting us with some wins, especially from this world cup 2007 and also for opening yet another window of hope and dream by outplaying the mighty Indians in their very first encounter. I also wish the tigers play sensibly in the forthcoming super eight encounters. Come-on Bangladesh!!
