IBA Freshers 2007 on 25th May

Dazzling decorations, cheerful colors and promising preparations - the stage is set for the most eagerly anticipated event in the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) calendar, the 'IBA Fresherz 2007.' This year's fresherz reception is being jointly organized by BBA 14th batch and MBA 4oth batch with the intention of giving the new batches a rousing welcome and making them a part of the IBA community. The theme 'The Colors of IBA' promises an event showcasing the finest creative prowess that IBA has to offer. The program, which is scheduled to take place on 25th May in the IBA auditorium, is being title sponsored by Sony Eriksson.

BRB Cables and NDF BD 3rd National Debate Festival'07

National Debate Federation of Bangladesh (NDF) in association with BRB cables arranged a two-day debate competition in Kushtia. The programme titled “BRB Cables NDF BD 3rd National Debate Festival'07,” brought debate to Kushtia in an unprecedented form. The inauguration ceremony was held on May 18. Chief guest at the programme was Mahfuz Anam, editor, The Daily Star. Special guests were Prof. AFM Yusuf Haider, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University; Mohammad Mojibur Rahman, Chairman, BRB Group; Anisul Haque, Majedur Rahman, country director, Bank Alfalah Moinuddin Bishwash Babu, chairman, Bishwash Group; Enamul Haque, Managing Director, Ambition Plus Consultants Ltd and Nibha Rani Pathok, head mistress, Kushtia Zila School. The ceremony was presided over by Mohammad Nurul Islam, District Commissioner, Kushtia.

The closing ceremony was held on May 19. Chief guest at the programme was Iqbal Shobhan Chowdhury, editor Bangladesh Observer. Special guests were Mohammad Safayet Hossain, General Secretary, NDF and others.

DU's Inter Dept. Basketball Tournament 2007 reaches its climax

The venue for Inter Dept. Basketball Tournament 2007 was shifted from indoor facility of the gymnasium to the outdoor court of Zahrul Haq Hall, where it was held under open sky.

After the inauguration on 23rd April, 2007, 24 departments & institutes divided into eight groups each consists of 3 departments, battled their way to the quarter final stage. In the 1st quarter final, Dept. of English defeated Institute of Business Administration by 1 point. History was made during the 2nd quarter final. In this match Dept. of Accounting & Information Systems defeated Dept. of Pharmacy. Dept of AIS scored 99, which is a university record for highest score by a team in a match. In the 3rd match defending champion Dept. of Economics defeated Dept. of Marketing. Dept. of Applied Physics, Electronics and Communication Engineering won the last quarter final over Dept. of International Relations.

The two semi finals were held on 8th and 9th of April. In the 1st Semi Final Accounting defeated Applied Physics, on the rain stopped second semi final, Economics won by 9 points over English.

Accounting & Information Systems and Economics are going to confront each other for the championship. Due to final examinations of several players of both departments, the final match will take place on the second week of June. So, watch out for an exciting final, folks!

Entrance day of 11th batch at University Dental College (UDC)

Last Wednesday, 16th May, 2007 was not any ordinary Wednesday for the 11th batch students of UDC. On that day the students of 11th batch celebrated their "Entrance Day - 2007" at the college cafeteria.

The total program lasted for four hours from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The Principal of the college Prof. Dr. Syed Mozammel Hossain gave the inaugural speech and cut the cake. Some of the heads of departments were also presented. Eye-catching T-shirts were distributed among the students. After lunch, students took part in the "Entrance Day" concert with "Shironamhin".

State College of Health Sciences observes International Nurses' Day

Students of the State College of Health Sciences (SCHS) celebrated the International Nurses' Day on May 12. To celebrate the day students brought out a colourful rally from the National Parliamentary Building the procession ended at SCHS campus. A short cultural programme was held which was followed by a discussion. Dr ASM Musihur Rahman, principal, SCHS presided over the session. Chief guest of the programme was Prof. Dr. MS Ilyas Dhami, Vice Chancellor (acting), SUB.


Orientation for 2nd Batch Of MIS, DU

The orientation program of the BBA 2nd batch students of Management Information System was held on May 13 in the Conference Hall of the faculty of Business Studies. Around 65 newly enrolled students were welcomed in a cordial environment.

Prof Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, the Honorable Chairman of MIS, presided over the program. The chief guest was Dr. Md. Serajul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, DU. Among the other eminent faculty Prof. Hasibur Rashid, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hannan Mia, Mr. Md. Moqbul Hosaain Buiyan were present in the session.

From the part of refreshers, Ishpia Momotaz, Hafizur Rahman and Arafat Ali expressed their feelings in their own way. On behalf of the 1st batch, Tarikul Islam and Abul Khayer made a cooperative speech assuring the new comers of all help.

Blood donation program at Northern University

In observance of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, Dept of Public Health of NUB and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society jointly organized a blood donation program on the 8th of May 2007 at the auditorium of faculty of Business.

Prof. Abdur Rob, Chairman, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society as the chief guest inaugurated the blood donation program while Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Haque, Vice Chancellor of NUB, M. Abu Bakar Siddique, Treasurer, NUB, Mr. M. Shafiul Alam, Secretary general, S.M Munir Lablu, Treasurer of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society were present as special guests. Among others Mr. Lutfor Rahman, Director, Human resources division, Md. Borhan Uddin, Director, Admission and information division, Prof. Dr. M. Azhar Uddin, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Mustafa Kamal, Prof. of the Dept. of Business Administration, Dr. G. U. Ahsan, Advisor of Dept. of Public health were present on the occasion.


ISD students sit for IB Diploma

In a few weeks time, 36 students of International School of Dhaka (ISD) will sit for their final examination for the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). Nearly 500,000 students from 124 countries will participate in one of the three IB programmes : The Primary Years (age 3-11), the Middle Years (age 12-16) and the Diploma Years (age 16-19). ISD is the only school in Bangladesh to take part in all the three IB programmes.

The focus of the IB is to create students who strive to be thinkers, communicators and open minded. The IB Diploma is recognised as a valued and prized entry qualification by universities and colleges around the world. Many of the ISD students have already received early offers of places at prestigious universities around the world, including McGill University, University of Toronto, Mt. Holyoke, University of Texas, Bennington College and St. Andrews.
