Passing Out Parade of MEA

Cadet Imtiaz

Marine Fisheries Academy (MFA) is a renowned Academy among the five academies in Bangladesh. This Academy started its journey as a project of Bangladesh Fishing Development Corporation (BFDC) and on 20 April 1998 it came under the administrative control of Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. But on 01 July 1993 the Academy was transferred to revenue budget under the same Ministry. Since then 1040 cadets have passed out from this academy among which about forty percent cadets are serving abroad.

The passing out parade of the 25th batch was held at Academy on 9th May 2007. It was a very different kind of morning when the cadets wearing tunic (Full sleeve white shirts and white full pants) along with parade boots and white hand gloves came on the parade ground. The parade ground was well decorated and the guests were siting just in the front. Dr. C.S. KARIM, adviser of Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of the caretaker government was the chief guest. Ataur Rahman, secretary of Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock was special guest. Many officers from Bangladesh NAVY, Journalists from various TV channels and newspapers, many ex-cadets of this Academy and the parents and relatives of passing out batch were also present to enjoy this beautiful ceremony.

At first, the markers of the parade and the pilots holding swords were asked to stand on parade ground by the parade commander Shatinath Ghosh of passing out batch. Then the platoons were coming out one by one. Cadet Mozammel Haque lead the flag party holding the national flag. When the chief guest arrived, parade paid him mark of respect by giving salute. Then the chief guest inspected the parade. After that parade presented slow march drill. All the cadets were well dressed and they did the parade smartly.

There are three medals that are given by MFA according to activities of the cadets during their training period. Three silver medals are given to the three best cadets of each departments (Nautical /Marine eng./ Marine fisheries Technology ) and one gold medal is given for best all round performance. This year Cadet Imrul, Cadet Shatinath and Cadet Mizan got the three silver medals of respective department. Cadet Shatinath also achieved the most attractive prize of the ceremony (the gold medal)-as a best all round cadet of the 25th batch.

After that, the chief guest gave a short but valuable speech. He expressed his satisfaction about Cadets' drill and standard. The principal of MFA, Commandar M. Makbul Hossain (TAS), Psc, BN, actually the heart of all the activities of MFA created a new dimension in this Academy. And the arriving of adjutant Lt. Al- Emran gave an extra momentum. These two always emphasised on discipline and take out maximum from each cadet.

The positive thing is that all the Cadets of passing out batch get job. They can join a ship just after the passing out or one or two months later. Again the salary of the jobs is quite handsome. So. whoever wants to give something good to the parents and want to be a good mariner of the country can select MFA without any doubt.
