Robot SKIM-H on Voyage
The young Kueti@ns, after working six straight months, finally completed their dream child-'ROBOT SKIM-H'. Supervised by Prof. Dr. M.M.A. Hashem and invented by 3rd year Kueti@ns Abdullah-al Mamun(Sajib), Md. Kamrul Hasan(Konok), Al Imran, Md. Miftah-Uddin, I am proud to say that 'SKIM-H' is the first generation A.I (Artificial Intelligence) robot from Bangladesh. However, the name Skim-H is derived from initials of the inventors. Automated systems, hazard free Road transport and ease of life are some of the main concerns of SKIM-H. Oh!! Not to forget, SKIM-H has also plans to compete in the next 'ROBO World Cup'-A prestigious tournament of robotics.
The inventors from KUET also recall the constant supervision of Prof Dr. M.M.A. Hashem.
The Making:
The parts and electronic components used in making of SKIM-H robot were hard to find in local markets. Some of them were collected from foreign countries with the help of Ex-Kueti@ns. A four-wheel platform has been used for SKIM-H which is controlled by a dc motor. It has been made automated by using digital compass, IR proximity sensor and sonar sensor. It can identify any object automatically while in operation. A PDA is used as main controlling engine and Micro controller, voice engine, Bluetooth, DTMF and others are used as secondary control. Programming language C sharp and C++ are used for the software part.
Operation:
SKIM-H mainly operates in three modes.
Voice Mode :
In this mode of operation, SKIM H understands the voice command from the operator and can function according to it. It's algorithm has A.I parts so it can understand simple logics and make simple calculations as well. When an operator starts SKIM-H, first it will say,” I am skim-h” and then “What can I do for you?” Then u can start to command it, like to move forward, backward, left, right and so on. If an obstacle comes in front of it, u can command it to stop at once and also if you wanna see what it is; it will just send a snap of it to your controlling device (PDA).
Dtmf Mode Of Operation:
Different buttons of a Cell phone can generate different Frequencies. With the help of it an operator can operate SKIM-H manually within the range of 10-20 meter.
Automatic Mode Of Operation:
Without the direct supervision from an operator, SKIM-H can Work as an independent device by using It's own artificial intelligence. First, it will fix its destination and then move forward. If an obstacle occurs which it can't pass, it will wait for 10 seconds and then find another way by moving in other directions.
If this mechanism is applied to A vehicle, it will drive automatically, maintain the traffic signals and always find the shortest possible way to reach its destination by using GPS system with out any hazards. Inventors also thought about using it in Security systems. Although it is just a beginning and SKIM-H is still in its premature age, we can expect it to work much more effectively with the span of time.
