NSU National Career Fair held

Career and Professional Development Services of North South University organised the National Career Fair 2007 on July 20 at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.

The daylong programme was organised to facilitate both career seekers and employers looking for better opportunities to amplify their values and career. About hundred reputable companies from different sectors participated in the event. Grameenphone was the titled sponsor of the career fair


RU distributed Professor Boshak Award' and 'Basak Scholarship 2005'

Rajshahi University authorities distributed 'Professor Boshak Award' and 'Boshak Scholarship 2005' to meritorious students at university senate auditorium in a colourful function. Peninsula Welfare Trust initiated the award and Physics department of RU organised the award distribution ceremony.

Caretaker Government Advisor Dr C S Karim was present as chief guest and distributed the award and scholarship among the students.

RU Vice Chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain and Pro-VC Prof Mamnunul Keramat were present as special guests while Peninsula Welfare Trust Chairman and Shahajalal Science and Technology University Vice Chancellor Professor Aminul Islam presided over the function. Eminent physicist scientist Prof Arun Kumar Boshak, RU science faculty Dean MA Hashem, Peninsula Welfare Trust general secretary Dr Rezaur Rahim and RU physics department chairman Prof Obaidul Hakim also addressed the function.

Zakir Hossain, who secured first position in B.Sc (Hons) examination under science faculty of Applied Physics and Electronic and Engineering department and Nusrat Zahan, who secured first class first in physics department of RU got 'Professor Boshak Award 2005'. Both the students were given Tk 40, 000, a crest and a certificate. Debika Boshak, wife of Prof Arun Kumar Boshak also distributed crest, certificate and cheque among the students.

Students who got 'Professor Boshak Scholarship' in Physics department are- Rashedul Islam (1 st year), Al-Helal (1st year), Sumon Chandra (2nd year), Md. Aftabuzzman (3rd year) and Abdur Rashid (4th year). The function was conducted by Professor Irin Banu Lucy and Dr Rayhana Islam.


BU Blood donation program at Savar campus

BRAC University (BU) and Bangladesh Thalassaemia Hospital (BTH) jointly organised a day-long blood donation program at Savar campus on July 09,2007. Mr. Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Adviser-BTH and Mr.Shafaat Ahmed, Campus Super-BU were present on the occasion.

This was the third such blood donation program organized at the Residential Semester (RS). A total of 47 students of RS, staffs, faculty members participated in the program. The blood collected will be given to the Thalassaemia patients.

2nd Daffodil Inter-University Programming Contest-2007 concludes

The 2nd Daffodil Inter-University Programming Contest-2007 came to a successful conclusion on 20 July with the awarding of prizes among the winners. The ceremony was held at the DIU auditorium at Sobhanbagh, Dhaka. Prof. Dr. Tareque Shamsur Rahman, Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh attended the function as chief guest. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Daffodil International University presided over the programme.


Birth anniversary of M.A.Samad at SUB

Stamford University, Bangladesh celebrated the 68th birth anniversary of country's eminent film personality late M. Abdus Samad, the founder chairman of the Film and Media Dept. of Stamford University, Bangladesh. In memory of the great film maker a discussion meeting was held at the Siddeswari campus. Prof. Hasan Taufiq, the Registrar of the university presided over the discussion meeting while Artist Mustafa Manwar and Manjare Hasin Murad were present as the chief guest and special guest respectively. Mr. Motin Rahman, coordinator of the Film and Media Dept. made the introductory speech. Mr. Mohiuddin Faruq, a film artist recalled the various contributions of late M. Abdus Samad. Mr. Shakur Shah, director of Art Institute, artists Mahmudul Haque, Shishir Bhartacharya, Nasrin Begum, Jamal uddin, Ranjit Das were present as guests of honour.

Freshers' Reception Ceremony at (ADUST)

Summer 2007 freshers' reception program of Atish Dipankar University Of science & Technology (ADUST) was held on June 30, 2007 (Saturday) at the university campus. The program was organized by ADUST Cultural Alliance (ADUSTCA). Dr. Kabir Hossain Talukdar, Registrar, ADUST presided over the program, while Professor Dr. Anwara Begum, Vice Chancellor, ADUST graced the program as chief guest. Professor Dr. Ataur Rahman attended as special guest and Professor Dr. Sukomal Borua, Chairman, Dept. of Shanskrit and Pali, DU as guest of honor. The new students were heartily welcomed and given important guidelines with encouragement by the guests in their speech.

The second session of the program consisted of a colourful cultural program and band show.

DMC Computer Club executives


The Computer Club of Dhaka Medical College, a voluntary IT organisation of medical students, has formed its 17-member executive committee for the session 2007-08. Rakibul Alam Chayan and ANM Tauhidur Rashid Shuvro have been elected president and general secretary of the committee respectively.

Buet team leaves for Hanoi

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) will participate in the 'Robocon 2007, Hanoi' organised by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (AUB).

A group of students of Mechanical Engineering Department will leave for Hanoi on July 23 to attend the competition. The students have made four modern Robots for the competition that will be kept in the laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Department.

Previously, teams from Buet took part in 'Robocon 2006, Kuala Lumpur' and 'Robocon 2005, Beijing' and won Panasonic Award.


A visit to Rahimafrooz Battery Factory

On the 21st of July 2007, 23 of us IEEE members of AIUB set out on a scientific excursion to the battery factory of Rahimafrooz Batteries Limited situated in the outskirts of Savar. As exuberant as the trip was, it would not have been possible without the aid of certain individuals, namely: the coordinator of the Engineering Faculty of AIUB, Mr. Rezaul Bari, Mr. Abu Noor Afsher Khan, Production Coordinator and Md. Sharfuddin Numan, GM HR and QMS of Rahimafrooz Batteries Limited. This trip was one of the many arranged by the AIUB Engineering faculty and the first of its type arranged by the IEEE student branch at AIUB.

Cisco Networking Program under BRAC University

On the 9th July 2007, BRAC University celebrated the completion of her 7th and 8th batches of CCNA course graduates. CCNA® stands for Cisco Certified Network Associate, which is the premium certification for professionals who design and develop custom business solutions with Cisco routers and switches.

BRAC University, as an authorized "Cisco Systems Local Academy" (LA) was established in 2003. This CCNA Training program will enable successful candidates to prepare for the CCNA certification. In these three years we have produced over 200 graduates who all are now well placed in various renowned organizations all over the country.

BRAC University's Vice Chancellor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury presided over the ceremony. We also had with us Dr. Sayeed Salam, Chairperson, CSE department BRAC University, Mr. Mahmood Hasan, Registrar BRAC University and Erika Hoffman-Kiess, representative of Cisco Networking Academy in Bangladesh. All congratulated the students and emphasized the need of vendor certification. The speakers also suggested that specialized skills in networking would enhance the opportunity of better careers for the graduates. CCNA certification is increasingly becoming a mandatory qualification in job specifications in the networking area. Erika Hoffman-Kiess discussed about her organization's initiatives. One initiative is the website, “www. JIPLerz.com” which is acting as a link between employers and job seekers. This website will help the CCNA graduates further develop their career paths. Amongst the 34 graduates, one student from each batch said a few words. Faisal Mobarak, of batch 7 who works for Warid Telecom and Ali Al Asadullah Mohammad Shafi of batch 8, Assistant System Administrator of BRAC University, both stressed on the fact how CCNA helped in developing their careers. They also requested BRAC University to also offer different training programs.

BRAC University was happy to announce the launching of a new certification training program on “Fundamentals of Wireless LANs”, which also under the Cisco Networking Academy. Two instructors of the University have completed the instructor training from University of Indonesia under the Cisco Networking Academy. Since Spring 2007, BRAC University has also integrated the CCNA curriculum with the existing networking courses. This will help the students of BRAC along with their general graduation degree to be prepared for the CCNA industry certification.


Rajshahi University Day celebrated

The present and former students, teachers, and employees celebrated the 54th Rajshahi University (RU) Day with great fanfare on the RU campus. To mark the programme, the whole campus wore a festive look.

Day-long program was inaugurated by RU Vice Chancellor Prof. M Altaf Hossain and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mamnunul Karamat through hoisting the national flag and RU flag in front of famous Shabash Bangladesh Monument chattor. Then they took special salute and enjoyed the exceptional presentation of BNCC and Rovers Scouts Cadet of RU unit.

Soon after the inaugural session, a colourful rally began from the Shabash Bangladesh chattor that paraded the RU campus led by RU VC and Pro-VC, where thousands of students, present and former teachers, and employees participated with balloons, banner and festoon as the rhythmic sound of drumbeats filled the air.

Later, a discussion program was held at the Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium with the participation of RU VC Prof. M Altaf Hossain, former VC of Islami University (IU) Prof. Rafiqul Islam, RU Pro-VC Prof. Mamnunul Karamat, Treasurer Abdul Jabbar Khan, Deans of faculties, Chairman of the 47 departments, Director of the 5 institutes, Provost of the 16 residential halls.

A tree plantation program was inaugurated by RU VC at the east zone of the campus. A blood donation camp and friendly football match was organized at RU Stadium in the afternoon. Finally, a cultural function was held in the Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium in the evening.
