Bangladesh Wins the Fighting Spirit Award

University of Dhaka (Bangladesh Team) has demonstrated the third best result in the International Law Moot Court Competition “Asia Cup 2007” held in Tokyo, Japan and has received the “Fighting Spirit Award” from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in praise of that achievement. Philippine received the “Foreign Minister's Award” securing first position and Thailand received Runner Up Team Award in consideration of their 2nd best result. The other participants in the competition included competent teams from Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan.

Being selected by the organizers within the top six teams through the evaluation of the memorials submitted on the basis of the hypothetical case concerning Humanitarian Law issues, two mooters of Bangladesh team got sponsorship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Members of the team were Sharin Shajahan Naomi and Md. Al Amin. The team was coached by Mr. Md. Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, Assistant Professor, Department of Law.

The eminent judges who judged the teams included Ambassador Yamada, Member of the International Law Commission, Dr. Umesh Kadam, Legal Adviser, International Committee of Red Cross, Malaysia, and also Dr.. Jean-Marie Henckaerts, Legal Adviser, International Committee of Red Cross, Geneva, Switzerland.

In the award giving ceremony, Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended heartfelt congratulations on the brilliant success of the Bangladesh team being the first time participant in “Asia Cup, 2007” with an expectation of a better performance in future. Bangladesh team expressed its deep gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for giving this valuable chance to the Bangladesh team to participate in the Competition providing sponsorship to the mooters. At the same time, Bangladesh team remains grateful to the International Committee of Red Cross, Bangladesh Mission, for sponsoring the Coach of the team whose presence made this participation a success
