Orientation Programme

Orientation programme of the newly admitted students for Fall Semester 2007 was held on September 05 at the auditorium and DDC building. A total of 135 students enrolled in BBA, English, Economics, Computer Science, Computer Science & engineering, Pharmacy, Information & Communication Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Prof. Abdul Momin Chowdhury, former Vice Chancellor of National University graced the occasion as chief guest. In another programme Prof. AMM Safiullah, Vice Chancellor of BUET was present as chief guest. Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Vice Chancellor, East West University gave the welcome speech on the occasion.

4th Convocation of Asian University of Bangladesh

The 4th Convocation of Asian University of Bangladesh 2007 is being held today, 9 September, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre. Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed, Honourable President of the People's republic og Bangladesh and Chancellor of AUB will preside over the ceremony. Justice Mustafa Kamal will be the Convocation Speaker.

Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences,BU

Prof. A.A. Z. Ahmad, Prof. Naiyyum Chowdhury, Prof. Mofizuddin Ahmed and Dr. Dipen Bhattacharya from the MNS Department participated in a Discussion Session with Dr. Ataul Karim, an Expatriate Bangladeshi and Vice President Research of Old Dominion University, U.S.A. The event was organised by “Prothom Alo.” The session was also participated by Prof. M. Kaykobad of BUET, Dr. Debopriya Bhattacharya of CPD, Dr. Mahbub Mojumdar, Dr.Reza Hossain, former CSO, BAEC and Mr. Motiur Rahman, Editor of Prothom Alo. Dr. Ataul Karim gave a presentation on the possible contributions that the expatriate Bangladeshis can make towards socio-economic development of Bangladesh.

AIUB orientation programme held

American International University (AIUB) organised the freshmen orientation for the Fall-07-08 semester at AIUB auditorium on September 1. Dr. Anwarul Abedin, chairman of AIUB was present as chief guest. Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, Vice Chancellor, AIUB presided over the orientation while Prof. Tafazzal Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Anwar Hossain, Prof.Charles C. Villanueva and Prof. Hasan I Choudhury also spoke on the occasion.

IUB begins 3rd batch of MPH programme

Classes of the 3rd batch of the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree programme commenced at Independent University (IUB) recently. In this connection an orientation programme was held on IUB campus with the Vice Chancellor Prof. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury speaking before the new batch of students. Among others, Prof. Haroun Er Rashid, Dr. Tanvir A Khan and Prof. Omar Rahman were present at the orientation programme.

IEEE Student Branch, IUT visits Technical Division of Aktel

Recently a tour was organized by the IEEE Student Brach, IUT (Islamic University of Technology) to the Technical Division of Aktel. The main aim of the visit was to have an overview of the technical division of Aktel, situated in Uday Tower, Gulshan. The visit comprised of an overview on GSM Architecture, Core Network and Transmission System of Aktel. 25 student members participated in this tour, which surely contributed a lot to everyone's knowledge on GSM. At around 3pm, a theoretical demonstration of the whole GSM Network and call establishment procedure was given by Mr. Mohsiul Haque, NSQA. Mr. Haque's lecture was of immense value to all of us, especially to those willing to have a career in Telecom Sector. Mr. Jabed Chowdhury, NSS showed the switching system, consisting of highly sophisticated equipment.

Finally we had the Roof Top visit conducted by Mr. Shafiqur Rahman Khan, Transmission Planning. On the Roof Top, we saw the several towers and equipment used by Aktel for call transmissions. The tour was highly appreciated by all.
