Concert for life in Estern University

Nahid Irtaza Haque

On August 9 three students of English department (Rimon, Rony and Irine) decided to do something for the flood affected people. In that time the misery of the flood victims was so much that when they expressed their idea of holding a musical concert, it touched everyone and was immediately given the permission. It was high time we did something and we all had a jump start for making it happen in a couple of days. We fixed that the concert will take place on 14th August.

It was a short time and we had a lot to do. The main problem was to raise an initial fund for the arrangement but with the help of some students of English department we were able to start our work. We planned to sell tickets to raise money. The price of per ticket was set at 30/= for the students but for the teachers we kept the amount open. They contributed at their will and so did they to support us generously. We applied push sell technique and moved from department to department. In every department we found immense response from the students. In C.S.E and E.E.E department Shuvo, Tushan, Sumon, in Law department Naim, Shiplu, in B.B.A, Shagor helped us to sell the tickets. On 14th August we figured out that we have done everything but forgot to take the permission of the university management. So we put the concert under the name of English Language Club.

We started the concert at 3 pm and it was exciting for us as it was very well received by all. The performers (Salauddin, Rony, Naim, Imrose, and Radio Active's Polash) were university students and the students who watched the concert enjoyed it very much. We raised 14000 taka and after all expenditures we were able to give 9000 taka to Prothom-Alo fund for the flood affected.

At last I would like to mention the names of the students of English Department, they are Irine, Rony, Tinni, Tushar, Tanvir, and Nahid, without these people the program would not have been possible. Though the initiative was taken by English department students, it is a combination of joint efforts of all the students of Eastern University.
