To Shama, with love

Wasia Mehnaz Minna and Mishma Chowdhury

“It takes a long time to grow an old friend.” ~John Leonard

Who knows it better than us? Shama, Mishma and I - three peas in a pod. After 15 years of sticking together, attending 45 birthday parties (15 birthdays for each of the 3 of us) and countless get-togethers, surely we can claim to be 'old friends' by now. Come to think of it, what didn't we see each other through? Over these 15 years, we practically watched each other grow up from little gossipy brats to sensible young ladies (Are we, really?) All the memories of playing 'Borof-pani' in our school's playground, eating singaras and ring chips, arranging iftar parties, playing Uno and giggling away idle afternoons are still so vivid. Gosh, it makes us feel like so old, reminiscing old times. But let's not get carried away. This article is actually to let one of the most special people in our life how much she means to us and that her birthday is one of the most cherished days in our life. This special person is none other than you, Shama. We hope you are reading this (in fact, we'll make sure of it!). You know better than we do that what we feel for you cannot be described in words, so we won't even try. All we want you to know is that we are very grateful to the 10th of December, because it gave us you. If it were not for this day, we would not be blessed with the greatest friend anyone could ever have. We love you. We love you for the yummy milkshakes you make for us, we love you for the stern looks you give us when we are being bratty, we love you for the sensible advice you are ready with whenever we are lost and confused (which is quite often) and we love you for being the safety net that we know we can always fall back into. We will not thank you for everything you do for us (we take that for granted) but we do thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being who you are. We love you to death. Happy Birthday!
