Meeting on “Inter University Drama Festival” at IUB

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) is going to organize an 'Inter University Drama Festival, 2008'. For this purpose a meeting was held between the members of IUB Theatre and representatives of other participant universities at IUB Campus on 10th December, 2007. Mr. Abu Noyeem Md. Sharif, Vice President, IUB Theatre welcomed the guests and the festival was explained by Mr. Hussainul Abedin, General Secretary, IUB Theatre. The program was chaired by Dr. G.M. Shahidul Alam, Chief Patron, IUB Theatre. Among the advisors Dr. Shahriar Khan and Ms. Samina Luthfa, Coordinator, Farjana Hafiz, Theatre president Mr. Abir, treasurer Mr. Maruf and other members of IUB Theatre were present in the meeting. The meeting was ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Farjana Hafiz, Coordinator, IUB Theatre.


Sunnydale comes forward to help the Sidr victims

Sunnydale School Dhaka has always come forward in hours of need and this time too, has initiated relief collection for the ones whose lives have been shattered by Sidr. It's amazing how the enthusiastic students, parents, teachers and the other staffs came forward to help the victims and a staggering amount of relief goods were collected in a short span of time. Among the relief goods collected were 7000 kg of rice, 1750 kg of lentil, 1750 kg of flaked rice or chira, 1750 kg of molasses, 7000 litres of drinking water, 2000 packets of saline, 72 kg of milk, 100 kg of puffed rice or muri, 500 lungis, 500 sarees, 75 sets of kitchen utensils, 2000 packets of match boxes and many other miscellaneous items. The total amount of cash collected was Tk. 4,45,042 of which Tk. 3,51,671 has already been spent to buy more relief goods and Tk. 93,371 is yet to be utilized. As Mr. Mizan, who personally went to distribute the relief funds, put it “We have only added a drop in a bucket that needs to be filled. What we have contributed may seem like a lot but the ones out there need a lot more than that. We just cannot afford to stop here.” The goods were distributed at Char Bhaddrashon in Faridpur and Boroitola, Majher Char, Baolkar and Dema in Borguna, all these places being few of the worst affected areas.


Microsoft Career Seminar at BRACU

A half-day Microsoft Career Seminar, organized by BRAC University and sponsored by Microsoft Bangladesh was held at the LGED Auditorium on December 13, 2007. The event was entitled “Informational Event on Work and Life at Microsoft” and its aim was to provide first-hand information about opportunities at Microsoft, their recruitment & interview process and life at and around Microsoft, USA. Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University, inaugurated the seminar. This was followed by another introductory delivery by Mr. Feroz Mahmud, Country Manager, Microsoft Bangladesh.

The seminar covered talks focusing on the topics such as: Different roles at Microsoft; Recruiting process at Microsoft; Benefits of working at Microsoft and Microsoft culture. The seminar concluded with an informative Q & A session. In view of the success of the seminar, Dr. Mumit Khan, Associate Professor, Computer Science & Engineering announced that similar events would be organized in the near future.



Freshers Welcome at AUST

Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology has organized a gala event titled 'Brittayon' to welcome the newly admitted students of the Electrical & Electronic Engineering today, Sunday, 06 January 2008. The programme is being held at National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts at Segunbagicha. Vice Chancellor of AUST Prof. Dr. M Anwar Hossain graced the occasion as the chief guest while Prof. Dr. Abu Md Shadullah attended as special guest. The whole day programme will end at 6 PM

BUET & 60 Years of Engineering Education

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology ( BUET) has celebrated 60 year of engineering education in Bangladesh in a befitting manner. completion as an engineering university. The programme has been named “ 60 Years of Engineering Education in Bangladesh'. BUET arranged a lot of programmes to enjoy the 60 years celebration. For the purpose of the festival all the laboratories and classrooms of all the departments were kept open for visitors from 29-31st December. Symposium, cultural programmes, drama shows and film shows were organized through the six month celebration.

Taylor's College, School of Hospitality & Tourism Named Malaysia' Best Hospitality School of the Year

Taylor's College, School of Hospitality & Tourism (TCHT) has clinched the prestigious Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA) for Hospitality School of the Year 2007-2008 (Malaysia Series). The award was announced on November 22 at the HAPA 2007-2008 Gala Charity Dinner and Awards Presentation in Crown Plaza Mutiara Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The event was attended by over 800 hospitality and tourism professionals in Malaysia. Mr. Pradeep Nair, Taylor's College Chief Operating Officer addressed the gathering.

Quiz competition @ ULAB

A Quiz competition was held at University Of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on 18th December, 2007.

The competition organized by Ulab Debating Club was open to all and 40 students of different department's participated in the event. Quiz was held in written and was MCQ based and the questions were on recent topics including current national and international affairs, sports, science and technology.

Ashfaqur Rahman, a third year student of ULAB secured the first place while Gazi Faisal and Fazlul-Al-Hasnain secured the 2nd & 3rd place respectively.
