Sayem-Eric design wins honorable mention

Bangladeshi student Sayem Khan (Rajit) along with team member Eric Vencer of Boston, USA has won an
"honorable mention" in the "attached" international
design competition on "Post-Disaster Provisional Housing" - sponsored by New York City and Rockefeller Foundation.
There were 462 initial entries from 52 countries,
out of which 117 designs were finally considered.
About the Sayem-Eric design, the jury-comment
is: IT MAY NOT BE A NEW YORK SOLUTION, BUT PERHAPS A WORLD SOLUTION.


“Meet The Leader” Program at Jahangirnagar University

DBA Business Club organized “Meet The Leader” Program on February 2, 2008 at the seminar room of Department of Business Administration (DBA), Jahangirnagar University. The leader of the day was Product Group Manager of Unilever Bangladesh, Mr. K. S. M. Minhaj. Dr. S. M. Rafiul Huque, Assistant Professor, DBA chaired the session and at the beginning of the session he delivered the welcome speech and gave an honorary crest to the chief guest.

Mr. K. S. M. Minhaj gave an excellent presentation on the topics, “Developing Brands Through Integrated Communication”. In this lively presentation session, he shared his experience with the students regarding a proper idea about how to develop a brand through the customer insight recognition, emotional attachment on advertising and successful customer communications. He also analyzed and discussed on some exclusive national and foreign commercial ad clips to show real examples about how to make a brand strong through integrated communication. Before joining Unilever Bangladesh he worked as a Brand Manager of Nestle, in the session he shared some interesting job experiences with the students as a brand Manager of both the companies. The students who are going to be future leaders of the country's corporate world enriched their knowledge by the valuable speech of this corporate celebrity. After the presentation Mr. K. S. M. Minhaj responded to the various questions of the students in a question-answer session.

Md. Mehraz Mueed, students of 13th batch anchored the whole program. Faculties of the department Mr. Mohammad Nazmul Islam, Mr. Zahidul Islam, Mr. Shahriar Kabir, Mr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Siddiquee and Mr. Arafat Rahman were also present at the program.

HSBC Young entrepreneus Awards (YEA) 2008

HSBC is organizing The Young Entrepreneurs Awards reoad shows at various universities to encourage students to participate in this regional business plan writing competition. So far the road shows have been arranged at Brac University, Jahangirnagar University, East West University, North South University, Dhaka University, Shajalal University and Chittagong University. A brief presentation was made to the students at the road show regarding the competiton where attending students had a chance to find out more about the program.

Prof. Syed Manzoorul Islam launches Faheem's Valentine Day audio album

'I listened to this album last night and I have no hesitation to say that Faheem sang all the songs really well, enough to stir the hearts of romantic listeners,' said an exuberant Prof. Syed Manzoorul Islam as he displayed to the audience the cd titled “Shu…mona” published on the occasion of Valentine's Day at the Little Mag Area in Bangla Academy book fair on Pohela Phalgun (13 February) evening.

Shailee Digital Prokashoni, countrywide reputed for its publication of animation video cd's for children, for the first time published this special audio album sung by Dr. Faheem Hasan Shahed, a faculty of English in AIUB. The album comprise one new song titled 'Shu…mona' written and tuned by Faheem, one Tagore song 'Premer phaad pata bhubone' and sic all-time-great love songs of yester decades like 'Ami eto je tomaye bhalo beshechhi', 'Ek poloker ektu dekha', 'Bodnaam hobe jeneo tobu bhalobeshe chhilam' etc. The songs are preceded by portions of romantic poems by eminent poets.

Prof. Islam, describing Faheem as one of his most affectionate students in English department, hoped that listeners irrespective of age and status would love this album and get involved in the romantic spirit of the songs. He asked Faheem to come up with further volumes of similar classic love songs that still echo in the minds of people.


An English Language Teaching (ELT) event titled Three Types of Journal Writing for the Classroom was conducted at Presidency University. The facilitators were Beth Trudell and Mahmuda Yasmin Shaila from English Language Program, BRAC University.
Western College, Dhaka recently arranged a study tour at Dardaria of Kapasia, Gazipur district.


Inaugural Ceremony was held at JUST Int’l School & College on 04 February 2008. Prof. Dr. Md. Shamsher Ali attended the program as the chief guest.
