Annual Botanical Conference 2007

Annual Botanical Conference 2007, organized by the Dept of Botany Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh Botanical Society was held at Prostabito Jahir Raihan Auditoriam from 7 to 9 March. Chief guest of this conference was Honourable Adviser Dr. C. S. Karim, Ministry of Agricultural and Water Resources, Govt. of the People Republic of Bangladesh. On the presentation session he thanked BBS for arranging such a grand programme in the University campus and for awakening people of all sectors about botanical advancements. Prof. Dr. A. Z .M Nowsher Ali Khan was the Chair of this programme and Vice chancellor Prof Dr. Khandakar Mustahidur Rahman, pro Vice chancellor Dr. M. Muniruzzaman, Treasure Prof Dr. Syed Abdul Hye, Dean of faculty of biological sciences Prof M. Shahbuddin Kabir and last but not the least Managing Director of Hamdard Laboratories Hakim Md. Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan were present as special guests at the Conference. The theme of the Conference was 'Plant Science in Food Security and Disaster Management.'

Another attraction of this Conference was the exhibition of herbal products, Hybrid vegetables, and insecticide, Tissue culture, flower and cactus exhibition. Different Companies had their stalls to show their products inside the auditorium.

This conference was a different kind of a programme on JU campus, which students enjoyed visiting. Ziaul, one of the students of English Dept said, “This kind of program makes students aware of the botanical diversity we have in the country."
