East West University launches New Website

East West University launched an updated website on 23 April as a part of developing its information platform in World Wide Web. Vice Chancellor of EWU Professor Mohammed Sharif launched the website at the EWU auditorium, and told that this updated website will carry the contents on every important aspect of the University. The URL of the website is the same as the previous one: www.ewubd.edu

Professor Sharif also thanked the faculty members and university officials who have come forward to develop this website in an updated form. Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Kamrul Hasan and Dr. Anisul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Engineering also spoke on this occasion.


Day-long workshop at UIU

A day-long workshop titled Smart Choice of Career & Preparing to Get Fit (SCC & PGF) was arranged by the School of Business of United International University (UIU) at its auditorium recently.

UIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan presided over the workshop. Mr. Dipal Chandra Barua, Deputy Managing Director of Grameen Bank and Managing Director of Grameen Shakti, Mr. Mollah Nafiz Imtiaz, Head of Pre-paid Products, Grameen Phone Ltd; Mr. Syed Akhlakuzzaman, Head of Human Resource Division (Training); and Mr. Hasan Zamil, Head of MIS and Market Intelligence Human Resource Division, BRAC Bank Ltd, were the guest speakers of the workshop. In the workshop Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Prof. Dr. Habibur Rahman, Dean, School of Business; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Musa and Prof. Dr. Saleh Uddin discussed different aspects of smart choice of career & preparing to get fit.

UIU Registrar, DSA, Moderators, Faculty Members and students were present in the workshop.

The workshop was coordinated by the Faculty of UIU Mr. Khandokar Mahmudur Rahman, Mohammad Ahsanullah, Emranul Huq, Sharkar Rafiz A Ratan, Sharmin Akter, Tazul Islam and others.

Mr. Akhlakuzzaman conducted the first session on “Banking as a Career; Lesson from Experience”. Mr. Akhlakuzzaman along with Hasan Jamil, UIU Prof. Dr. Salauddin and Assistant Professor Khandokar Mahmudur Rahman, arranged a mock interview session with the students in wich four students participated.

Dr. Dipal Chandro Borua conducted another session on 'Smartness a way to reach your target'. Mr. Mollah conducted a session on “Marketing as a profession and Getting Preparation how to fit” that day.

Finally the Honourable Vice Chancellor of UIU Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan concluded of the program with a certificate providing ceremony. It was really an effective workshop for the students.


Inter-school Spelling Bee

The “First Inter School Spelling Bee” was organised by Y'Z Club at Democracy Watch on 19th April , 2008. Prime Bank Limited sponsored the programme. Ferdousi Sultana, Head of Public Relations and Senior Vice President of Prime Bank gave away prizes among the winners as chief guest. Galib Huq of Kids Tutorial secured 1st position. Mahmudul Huq, founder of Y'Z Club was also present in the occasion.


CELP Certificate Award ceremony 2008 at Southeast University

The English department of South East University arranged CELP Certificate Award ceremony on 10th April 2008 in the auditorium of Southeast University. Around 256 students from different departments attended the programme. Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali attended the ceremony as special guest. The programme started with the welcome speech of the chairman of the English Department, Brig. Gen. Mirza T H Beg (Retd). Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences in his speech emphasised the necessity of learning English in the present global world. The Vice-chancellor congratulated the successful students and distributed certificates among those who got 'Excellent' grade. The certificate award programme was followed by a colourful cultural programme participated by the students from different departments.


Inter Department Debating Competition at ULAB

The Debating Club of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised the 2nd Inter Department Debate Competition 2008 on 3rd,4th and 17th April. Held at ULAB auditorium the competition was inaugurated with the welcome address by the ULAB Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Islam.

The final and the closing of the competition was held on 17th April, with the English Department taking the winning trophy by defeating BBA debaters in English debate while after a tough competition BBA debaters beat Media Studies and Journalism Department and bagged the championship in Bangla debate.

Afroza Akhter and Maliha Bassam became the best debaters of the final in Bangla and English debate respectively.

Two faculty members Mr. Shahnewaz Kabir and Mr. Liton Chakrabarty and three members of ULAB Debating Club, Md. Alzami Rahman, Md.Waheed Miah and S.A. Fazal Sanim got the best organiser award for their outstanding performance in arranging the programme. Prof. Muhit- ul- Alam, Head of English Department and Prof. Abdul Mannan of Business Administration Department distributed the crests and certificates among the winners and the participants of the programme.

It is right place for the students and academics to share your ideas with the global community. Since the year 2000, the conference is being held annually on different issues. This year the date of the conference is 8 May. Starting at 00.00 (Bangladesh Time 06 am) it will continue round the clock till 24.00 UTC. Conducted by some German, Danish and Swedish schools, the conference has 'Transport and Communication: Developing the 21st Century' as its theme this year.

It is worth mentioning that in the conference of 2007, a total of 1023 participants from 68 countries enrolled themselves to talk on the theme 'Globalization'.
