Save Alter Foundation

THE Save Alter Foundation (SAF) is a newly established organization of youngsters, whose primary aim is promoting the uprising musical talents of Bangladesh. Another point of interest of these avowedly patriotic teens is the betterment of their country in whatever ways possible. To further this noble effort they have already organized various fund raising programs, their most recent being a fund raiser for people who have suffered during the flood devastation.

As their name suggests, the seven members of Save Alter Foundation (SAF) lean more towards the promotion of 'alternative rock' music, and they have been able to work with many talented and well known musicians who support their cause. SAF feels that the music scene in Bangladesh has been corrupted by the overflow of 'metal' concerts taking place almost every other weekend. They picture a 'concert' to be exactly what the word means: a harmony of instruments and vocals. Their idea of a show follows the true old school of 'rock scene', where good music is main, and not drug abuse and chaos. To this end, all their efforts have thus far been focused.

SAF has already organized two highly successful shows, the first titled “The Unplugged Gig: Chapter 1” and the second, “The Unplugged Gig: Chapter 2”. The highlight band of Chapter 1 was Breach, supported by bands like Germantown, Shunno, Baah'sznought, Encore etc. The second event was a charity fund-raiser organized in collaboration with Southbreeze School, all proceeds having been donated to the previously mentioned flood victims. The third show starred classical prodigy Arnob, along with Shunno, '71, Germantown, Alternation, Defiance, Elysium, AlterMessiah, The Creeps and Domino. Both shows were supported and partnered by Words n' Pages.

SAF was the brainchild of Talha Rahim Khan, Quazi Zulyad Islam, Mushfique Malik, Zeheen Ahmed, Sadab Yamin, Zaki Md. Adnan and Ishtiaque Bin Masud. These youngsters have brought on a surge of awareness and responsibility among their peers, and this denotes a positive shift in the attitudes of all the Bangladeshi youths today, and they should therefore be supported and encouraged.
