His Royal Highness, The Duke of Gloucester at BRAC University

His Royal Highness, The Duke of Gloucester visited the Department of Architecture of BRAC University on 7th May 2008. The duke along with the British High Commissioner and his entourage were received by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury at the university and Prof. Fuad H Mallick the Chairperson of the Department of Architecture and Director of the Post Graduate Programmes in Disaster Management. He was then introduced to the university's mission and goals by the VC. The Duke then went around different design studios of the department and talked to the teachers and students about their class projects. The projects ranged from basic design work to large-scale urban renewal projects.

This was followed by a discussion on human settlements and architectural issues in Bangladesh and the Department's vision. The discussion continued with issues relating to Disaster Management with some of the department work in that field and the role of the University's Post Graduate Programs in Disaster Management.

Participating in the discussions were His Excellency Mr. Anwar Chowdhury, British High Commissioner, Mr. Mahmood Hasan, Registrar, Dr. Anwarul Haque, Chairperson, Department of Economics, Dr. Iftekhar Ghani Chowhdury, Dean, BRAC Business School and faculty members of Architecture department, BRAC University.


Stamford Summer Session-2008 Fresher Orientation

The Fresher Orientation Programme of summer session at Stamford University was held in 'Darbar Hall' at Pilkhana, Bangladesh Rifles on 28 April, 2008. Prof. Dr. M. A. Hannan Feroz, President & Vice-Chancellor, Stamford University Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest in the programme. The programme was presided over by Prof Hasan Taufiq, Registrar of the University. Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin Ahmed, Chief Academic Adviser and Dr. K. Maudood Elahi, Pro-VC, were also present as the honourable guests. The programme concluded with a wonderful cultural program.


Accounting career fair held at DU

A three-day 'Accounting Career Fair' was held on the premises of the Faculty of Business Studies at Dhaka University (DU) on 3rd-5th May in a bid to make students familiar with the existing facilities in the corporate market. A total of 20 corporate houses, including TM International (Bangladesh) Limited (Aktel), Rahimafrooz, National Bank, Unilever Bangladesh Limited, National Credit and Commerce Bank and Concord Group, joined the fair with different facilities and information of their respective companies.

Department of Accounting and Information Systems of the university organised the fair. DU acting Vice Chancellor Prof AFM Yusuf Haider formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest, while former FBCCI president Yussuf Abdullah Harun and Business Studies Faculty Dean Prof Serajul Islam were present as the special guests. Addressing the inaugural session, Prof Haider said the main target of such fair is to make students familiar with present facilities of the corporate houses. He expressed hope that through the fair, students will be able to get necessary information of private companies and make themselves competent in the workplace.

Yussuf Abdullah Harun said communication between business industries and educational institutes should be extended to make our students efficient and skilled manpower in the professional career.

Dr. Habibul H Khondker joins East Delta University

Professor Dr. Habibul H. Khondker, Chairman of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, UAE, is scheduled to inaugurate the Summer Session of East Delta University (EDU). Professor Khondker, who is also a founder member of EDU Advisory Panel, will teach undergraduate and graduate classes on Business Ethics at EDU this summer.

Professor Khondker taught at the National University of Singapore until 2005. He was educated in Dhaka University, Carleton University, Canada and University of Pittsburgh, USA. Dr. Khondker's valuable articles on globalization, ethics, state, civil society and armed forces, democracy, famine, Internet, science and gender issues have been widely published in various internationally recognized journals. During his stay in Chittagong, Dr. Khondker will also advise on various academic policies of EDU.
