Planning Students
Convention at KU

A day-long programme on “Environment and Urban Development” was held at 2ND Academic Building in Khulna University jointly organised by Urban and Rural Planning Discipline (URP) and Bangladesh Institute of Planners to share planning students works and their experiences. It was the first planning students convention in Bangladesh participated by URP discipline of Khulna University, department of Urban & Regional planning of BUET and department of Urban & Regional planning of Jahangirnagar University. The programme was inaugurated and presided over by Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC). Dr. Md. Saifuddin Shah, Vice Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Golam Rahman, Ex- Vice Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr. Sarwar Jahan, President of Bangladesh Institute of Planners, head of three planning institutions and many high rank planning professionals from all over the country graced the occasion.

In the convention following six papers were presented by three planning institutions students. These were: “Revitalization of the Railway Market of Khulna City,” “Vulnerability of Bangladesh Cities to Climate Change and Future Challenges for Urban Planning and Development,” “Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP): A Field Study on Rangamati Pourashava,” “Impact of Increasing Car Ownership on Peak Traffic Volume in Dhaka City and a Case Study of Dhanmondi Residential area,” “Buriganga Pollution: Reason & Prospects,” “On Site Slum Upgrading Program: A Case Study of BIZLI Moholla Baste (slum) & Kallyanpur Pora Baste (slum)”

At the end of the convention a fascinating and splendid cultural programme was organised by URP students of KU.


International Nurses' Day at
State College of Health Sciences


NURSING Department of State College of Health Sciences organized a seminar on May 20, 2008 to celebrate International Nurses Day. The theme of the Day was “Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Primary Health Care”.

Mr. AKM Manzarul Haque, Joint Secretary, Financial Management & Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was the chief guest. Maj Gen (Rtd.) Dr. M Shahjahan, Advisor, School of Health Sciences, State University of Bangladesh was present as a Special Guest. The function was presided over by Dr. ASM Mushior Rahman, Principal State College of Health Sciences.

Mrs. Azizun Nahar, Principal, Nursing College, Mohakhali, Dhaka and Prof. AYM Ekram-Ud-Doulah, Registrar, State University of Bangladesh were guests of honour. Speakers highlighted the importance of the Day and contributions of Florence Nightingale towards this noble profession and hopes that State College of Health Sciences could come forward to contribute for the interest of the Nursing sector in Bangladesh.

Mrs. Khadiza Begum, Acting Head, Nursing Department, State College of Health Sciences gave a note of thanks. Faculty Members of SUB & SCHS, officials and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
