Star Campus and We Team members speak out

Mahdin Mahboob
Star Campus is celebrating its Second Anniversary, and on the eve of this great moment, I feel proud to be part of the Star Campus Team. From the humble beginnings back in August, 2006, Star Campus has today grown to be the largest and most influential campus based magazine of the country.

I joined the Star campus team in May 2007 as a Copy Editor. This job required me to edit the many different types of articles that came into Star Campus every day. Editing itself is a very thought-provoking job. The articles that come in have all sorts of qualities and all sorts of ideas. Bringing all of them to a standard version does get challenging at times. Although my job does get very demanding at times, I still love it because of the general working atmosphere and the wonderful people I work with. Shahnoor Wahid, the Star Campus Editor is almost like a father figure to me being a very good friend at the same time. I feel fortunate to have excellent colleagues in the form of Sarah, Ridwan, Nazia, Towsif, Shayera, Saushan and Shagor.

Many thanks to all the readers of Star Campus for making the magazine what it is today. The readers, who also happen to be our contributors, are the key ingredients of Star Campus and stand to define what the magazine is all about by the students, for the students and of the students.

Seeking feedback for the second anniversary issue, we have received a number of letters from our valued readers who have sent in letters expressing their likes and dislikes about the magazine. Keeping those in mind, we will try to make the necessary changes in the coming issues so that the magazine can continue to achieve its motto of linking young minds together.

All in all, it indeed is a wonderful experience working here at Campus, one that I will cherish forever. I wish Star Campus a very happy Second Anniversary!

When I first joined SC, I thought I had signed up for a nice and easy job where I could while away my time browsing the net or having frequent addas. But I soon found out that I got more than what I bargained for. In an attempt to live up to the motto 'Linking Young Minds Together' Star Campus goes on trying to provide new and imaginative avenues for the young generation to make themselves heard. That is why me and my colleagues often find ourselves being dragged from our offices and put to organizing book reviews and seminars with notable personalities of our times. I have to admit that my experience at SC has been more enriching that I could have possibly imagined it to be.

This is an exciting time at Star Campus. Ever since this magazine began its journey two years ago, it has found itself constantly evolving and experimenting with different ideas. This tireless drive to keep changing has been partly due to Shahnoor Bhai's relentless efforts to cater to the diverse demands of our ever-increasing readership, and partly because of our self-realization that there is still a lot of room for improvement. We at Star Campus realize that this publication still has a long way to go, and that is why we are always trying to reach newer heights. It has been wonderful to be a part of this dynamic spirit that keeps this magazine going, keeps us exploring more innovative concepts and keeps us challenging ourselves.

Star Campus depends totally on the contributions of the readers. We do not have any designated writers nor do we differentiate between public or private educational institutes. Anyone doing anything good for the education sector draws our attention and we are ready to give it befitting coverage. We especially encourage readers and writers living outside Dhaka who hardly get noticed by the city-bred newspapers and weeklies.

Star Campus is pledge-bound to hunt for the hidden talents living in the peripheries as well as those living in the cities. So, feel free to contact us.

I must begin by saying that I never really thought I was 'responsible' enough to be a part of something like Star Campus. Then again with the creditable experience that I have been able to gather from working with my wonderful colleagues- Saushan, Ridwan, Mahdin, Shayera, Towsif, Nazia, Sagar bhai and especially my editor who to this little world is known by the name'Shahnoor bhai', has almost allowed me to be all that I ever wanted to be including being responsible! As a full time student, working for a student magazine has been particularly rewarding in my case. I enjoy every bit of a moment in and out of my work place as a staff of Star Campus. I would like to thank all the readers and the contributors for your enormous support in making SC happen. On a reflectively happier note, I wish Star Campus all the best in its near-term years!
