TV News Course ends at BIJEM

The concluding and certificate awarding ceremony of a month-long training course on TV News Presentation organized by Bangladesh Institute of Journalism and Electronic Media (BIJEM) was held recently at the conference room of the institute. Dr Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary, Ministry of Communications, was present as chief guest and distributed certificates among the participants. Rumana Sharmeen Borna, News Presenter, Bangladesh Television, was present as special guest. BIJEM Executive Director Mirza Tarequl Qader presided over the function. Renowned TV news presenters, TV journalists and Phoneticians conducted the course.

IT study to be made compulsory in SSC, HSC

The government will make computer and information technology a compulsory subject for the class-IX, X and higher secondary students for spreading computer education in the country.

"Besides, the present textbooks will be made easy and attractive," said an official announcement yesterday. The decision came at a meeting presided over by Education Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman. The meeting stressed the need for formulating an easy and attractive curriculum on computer and ICT. The issue of providing educational institutions with computers and appointing computer technicians to facilitate computer education across the country was also discussed at the meeting. Only 4.5 percent students are currently studying computer science at secondary and higher-secondary levels in the country, as it is not a compulsory subject. Education Secretary M Momtajul Islam and Science and ICT secretary Sheikh M Wahiduzzaman, among others, were present.

ICT Training Program at NUB

Min Soo Bahng, Secretary and Consular of the Republic of Korea, distributed certificates among the participants of ICT training programme which was jointly arranged by Northern University Bangladesh NUB and Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion (KADO) under the Ministry of ICT, Republic of Korea. M Abu Bakar Siddique Vice-Chancellor (current charge) of NUB; Md Lutfor Rahman, Director, Human Resources Division; Prof M A Razzaque, Dean of the Faculty of Business (current charge); and Prof Dr M Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Science and Korean Internet Volunteers Team, were present on the occasion.

Orientation of MPH at IUB

The classes of the 4th batch of the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program commenced at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), on Sunday September 7th, 2008. This is the fourth time that IUB is offering the MPH Program. An orientation program for the new batch of MPH students was held on September 4th, 2008 on IUB Campus, Baridhara, Dhaka. At the orientation, Vice Chancellor Prof Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury welcomed the new students joining the MPH program. He mentioned that the graduates of this program would find a wide variety of careers to choose from and would have a broad spectrum of outlook about the society and people. Registrar Dr. Tanvir A Khan spoke on the occasion. Pro Vice Chancellor and Director MPH Program Prof M Omar Rahman conducted the orientation program.

International Literacy Day observed

District Administration organised a students rally in hill town Khagrachhari to mark the International Literacy Day. The day was also observed in different schools and colleges across the country.
