IUB Theatre participates in SUST drama festival

24th August, 2008, 7.00am. Independent University (IUB) Theater Club started its journey to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), with 25 members from the production of “Buro Shaliker Ghare Roa”. The journey starts from Banani Railway station. It was an invitation from SUST (Mukto Moncho) for their drama festival 2008. On the opening day, 24th August, IUB performed their drama. For the first time IUB theater went to another university for performance. It happened with a great effort from our students and great inspiration from our teacher.

IUB Theater started their journey in 2006 by performing “Romeo and Juliet”. After that IUB Theater performed “Buro Shaliker Ghare Roa”, “Uncle Vanya” and “All This Madness” successfully. The happiest moment of IUB Theater Club was when they organized first inter university drama festival at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy auditorium. It was appreciated at all levels of the media.

On our journey to Sylhet we had advisors of IUB Theater Kaji Faruque Ahmed, Coordinator Ms. Farjana Hafiz and Advisor and Director Ms. Samina Luthfa. Our whole journey was full of fun. We reached Sylhet Railway station at 3.00pm and then by auto we arrived at SUST. Honestly SUST is a big beautiful University. Also the students are very friendly. When we arrived there students from SUST drama club welcomed us very warmly.

After having a little rest, the members of IUB Theater began taking their last minute preparation such as, stage decoration, makeup. At 6.00 pm the program started. There were welcome speeches by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of SUST, teachers and our Samina Luthfa. Around 6.30pm we staged our drama “Buro Shaliker Ghare Roa”. At 7.20pm we finished our drama. Once we finished we all started celebrating among ourselves and the entire audience joined us. Teachers and students from SUST congratulated us for that successful performance. SUST gave us a beautiful crest for doing the drama. The President of the IUB Theatre Club Apurbo received this honor on behalf of all the members. At last we flew!!!

At 10.00pm we start our journey to Dhaka. Everyone was tired but this tiredness was nothing in terms of our achievement. The journey from Sylhet to Dhaka took the whole night but everyone passed that time with music and enjoyment. Around 5.00am IUB Theater came back to Dhaka.

This achievement of IUB Theater is not only of the students, but also of our teachers and Vice-Chancellor of IUB Professor Bazlul Mubin Chowdhury. Our Chief Patron Dr. GM Shahidul Alam always inspired us in everyway, he has always instructed us about what we should do, and what is the best for us.

This is not the end of our journey. We have also been invited by the Jahangirnagar University for their drama festival. By getting involved with lots of activities IUB Theater is getting closer for its ultimate destination.
