SWAJON a campus based organization
EVERY year, thousands of people die in Bangladesh only for the shortage of blood. Swajon is a voluntary organization of Rajshahi University extending the helping hands for all in need for fresh blood. It is working with its own spirit and ideology since its establishment despite many difficulties.
Swajon was established eight years back by Mostafizur Rahman Ritu, a student of RU whose mother had to die because of blood shortage. A student of Political Science at that time, Ritu established a voluntary blood donation organization after failing to save his mother. From that evaluation he organized a voluntary blood donation association with the help of Rajshahi University (RU) authority at RU campus titled Esho Mora Hoi Swajon, Thakbe Moder rokter Bondhon. The organization was formed on Oct.12, 2002.
The main objective of Swajon is to provide blood without pay on emergency. Swajon have full fledged respective residential hall executive committee in RU to fulfil their objective. There is a central executive committee monitoring the works of the residential hall committees. The purposes of Swajon include, keeping a database of the donors, to influence others to donate blood and to create awareness about general and terrible diseases.
The members of Swajon have examined free blood groups of 18,000 people, arranged a seminar on “Necessity of blood group test, effect on wedding and life of child" in 2006 and organized debate competitions and cultural programs annually since 2006.
There are about 5000 members of the organization today spread across the entire Rajshahi Division. Swajon believes that it will be able to expand its operations with the help of all including the RU authority.
