The Expedition has Started- The Birth of CGHSDC

AFTER a long time and a great attempt, “Chittagong Government High School Debating Club (CGHSDC)” has started. It is an expedition because through this debating club we will war in favour of logic, work for logic and try to establish the sense of logic.

Chittagong Government High School has a rich tradition in the debating scenario of Chittagong. We have won “Drishty Inter School Debate Competition” five times. The person, whom we regard as our Guru in debate, is our beloved Adnan Bhai. Adnan Bhai read in our school and during that, had achieved national prizes. Arif Khan, Tahfimur Rashid and many other debaters have come from our school. Many say that our school is a producer of debaters!

In spite of the above, it is surprising that our school never had a proper debating club. Finally, with the enthusiasm of one of the teachers, Mr. Shafiqur Rahman and the patronage of our Headmistress, Mrs. Mahbuba Begum, the three of us- Nazmus Saakib, Tahseen Mahmood and I started a debating club in our school.

The opening ceremony of CGHSDC was held in the school campus on Thursday, 16th October 2008. Our Headmistress and some other teachers were present in that ceremony. Everyone expressed their feelings and love for debate. Our Headmistress and all our teachers encouraged us and showed their appreciation for our activities. They told us to do something good with the debating club. And undoubtedly, I will say that we have enough confidence and faith in our minds.

The theme of our club is 'The correct growth of thinking power shall bring up the new future'. We want to build up boys who will have all these essential qualities namely personality, self-confidence, sense of duty, expressing themselves, creativity, righteousness and of course truthfulness.
