Chinese writing competion at Dhaka University

Chinese writing competion was held on 16th January at IML, Dhaka University. It was arranged by the Department in the university. About 40 students of Chinese language of Dhaka University took part in the competion.

The writing competion was about the 'Spring Festival' in China. Cao Yanhua, the cultural attache of the embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh was the chief guest. In the competion Rayhan Sharif got the 1st prize, 2nd was Sultana Nasrin & 3rd was Rezwan. Another 20 students got the consolation prize. The Head of Chinese Department of D.U. Afzal Hossain encouraged the students to do better in the next. Course Yanhua who knows good Bangla, suggested the students to practise more as she developed her Bangla writing by hard practice.


AIUB wins ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL AWARDS from CISCO

CISCO recently concluded its' annual Asia-Pacific Regional Conference at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on December 10-13th, 2008. At the conference an award ceremony was held to recognize exceptional performances by Cisco Networking Academies across the APAC Region including Australia and New Zealand. This year out of over 1400 academies across the APAC region, the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) received 2 prestigious awards from Cisco for exceptional performances in different areas. The first award was for “Exceptional Performance as a Cisco Networking Academy across the Asia Pacific region in the year 2008” and the second award was for “Outstanding Performance as a Quality Assurance Academy across the Asia Pacific Region in the year 2008”. AIUB is blessed to be the only institution from Bangladesh to have ever received such high achievement awards of international standing from Cisco. It may be worth mentioning that AIUB had recorded the highest CCNA student enrollment of any Cisco academy in the Asia Pacific Region.

This year CISCO has upgraded AIUB from a local academy status to a Regional Academy to further promote their e-Learning based ICT education program in Bangladesh and other SAARC countries. Additionally, the AIUB Cisco Academy has also been appointed as the only Quality Assurance Academy for Bangladesh with the additional responsibility for Maldives, and Sri Lanka also. The Director of the Continuing Education Center, Asst. Professor Mohammad Rezaur Razzak manages the Cisco Networking Academy at AIUB.


Module preparation workshop held at BAU



Graduate Training Institute (GTI) organized a module preparation workshop on 'Foundation Training for University Officers' at the TSC Conference Hall of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal was the chief guest at the event. Presided over by GTI Director Professor Dr. M. Mozahar Ali, the inagural function was attended by BAURES Director Professor Dr. Md. Sahidullah Talukder as special guest. Professor Dr. Md. Tazul Islam, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, addressed the session, among others. Professor Dr. A.T.M. Ziauddin chaired the technical session of the workshop and it was participated by Treasurer Md. Idris Ali, Director Planning M. Mukhlesur Rahman and other officers of the University. A large number of Teachers and Officers attended the daylong workshop.

EWU faculty members win Best Paper Award

Apaper titled 'Communication Skills of the Business Executives of Local Private Business Concerns in Bangladesh' coauthored by Dr. Nargis Akhter, Ms. Sardana Islam Khan and Mr. Kamrul Hassan has received the GBMF UN OMAHA Best Paper Award at the First International Conference of Global Business and Management Forum (GBMF-08). The conference was organized and hosted by Pearl School of Business (PSB), Gurgaon, India on 7-8 November, 2008.

The authors of the paper are all from the Department of Business Administration. At the Conference, the paper was presented by Mr. Kamrul Hassan, which was highly acclaimed by the evaluators. East West University had a very strong presence at the GBMF Conference. Six research papers, written by faculty members and students of EWU, were presented at the conference.


Spring semester begins at IUB

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a welcome ceremony on Saturday, 17th January 2009 at the Baridhara campus for the newly admitted students of the Spring 2009 semester. On the occasion, the premises, full to the brim by the new spring-faces truly wore a festive look with festoons and banners. Prof Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of IUB heartily welcomed the new students and thanked them for choosing IUB for changing and shaping their future as they have recently demonstrated their resolve for a change in our national life. He assured the students that IUB would do everything to ensure their dreams come true. Prof Omar Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor spoke briefly on the distinctive nature of IUB education which places importance to professional education on the foundation of cross-disciplinary curricula on the model of the distinguished North American Universities.


NSU holds Spring 2009 orientation Ceremony


The orientation ceremony of Spring 2009 Semester for the newly enrolled undergraduate students of BBA, Economics, Environment, Architecture, English, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, ETE, EEE, Microbiology, Pharmacy and Biochemistry of North South University (NSU) was held on 18 January 2009 at NSU main campus at Bashundhara. Advisor to the Prime Minister Mr. H. T. Imam was present as Chief Guest and Chairman of NSU Foundation Mr. M.A. Awal was present as Special Guest. Dr. Hafiz G.A. Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor of NSU chaired the orientation ceremony. NSU Foundation members, faculty members, chairs of the respective departments, students and guardians were present on the occasion. Pro VC Dr. SAM Khairul Bashar, Dean Professor Amirul Islam and Dr. M. Ali Rashid, Registrar Dr. AKM Atiqur Rahman, Proctor Mr. Iqbalur Rahman and students Ms. Sonia Ferdouse Haque also spoke on the occasion.


IBA hosts orientation for new BBA students

On 21 January, newly selected students for the Batch 17 of the BBA program gathered in the auditorium hall of the Institute of Business Administration to take part in the traditional orientation ceremony. Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Professor Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Director of IBA, and a number of IBA faculty members also spoke on the occasion. The speakers advised the students to participate in co-curricular activities in addition to their coursework. Professor Nurur Rahman emphasized upon the need of “consistency, hard work and discipline” for succeeding in IBA. Professor A K M Saiful Majid congratulated the incoming Batch 17 for being the best performers in the admission test in the history of BBA program of IBA. The freshman students were then given a tour of the huge IBA campus, where they got to know about the institute's social life as well as the academics more closely.
