BAU organizes Public Lecture on Food System

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), BRAC University and Cornell University, USA sponsored a lecture on 'The Food System, Poverty and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources' on 15 February at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall of BAU. Economist of international repute Dr. Per Pinstrup-Andersen, Professor of Food, Nutrition and Public Policy, Cornell University USA, stressed the need for producing more food as well as poverty reduction by utilizing human, social, physical and financial capital of the country. Professor Dr. Md. Shahid Ullah Talukder, Director, BAU Research System presided over the lecture session while Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal was the chief guest. Professor Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mian, Professor Dr. M Bahadur Meah, Professor Dr. A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Wahab and other senior teachers and researchers took part in the discussion.

Besides, delegates from USA, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and BAU Deans of Faculties, teachers, students, researchers and high officials of the administration were present in the seminar lecture.

Workshop on Modern TV Journalism at DIU

A daylong workshop titled “Modern Television Journalism” was held at Daffodil International University on 7 February. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of DIU organized the workshop for the students of the Department. Evalotta Palm and Josefina Salehin, Lecturers of Jonkoping University, Sweden conducted the workshop. Professor M. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University, was present at the workshop as chief guest and Professor Dr. M. Golam Rahman of the Department of Mass Communication of Dhaka University was present as Special Guest. Professor Shusil Kumar Das, Dean of faculty of Humanities and Social Science and the faculty members of Daffodil International University also took part in the workshop.

MBA/EMBA Orientation @ ULAB

The orientation programme for the Spring 2009 term MBA and EMBA freshers of University of Liberal Arts (ULAB) was held on February 5, 2009 at the university auditorium. Vice-Chancellor Professor Rafiqul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman and the MBA Adviser Professor M Z Mamun welcomed the new students and highlighted the uniqueness of ULAB MBA course. The fifty new students represent a wide diversity in terms of gender, academic background and work experience. Full-time and adjunct faculty and university officials also attended the programme.

NSU Observes Spring Festival

The students of North South University (NSU) observed the Spring Festival (Pohela Fagun) at NSU campus on 15 February 2009, organized by North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS). The colourful event included rally, songs and dance that changed the entire ambience of the campus.

NSUSS Faculty Adviser Dr. Deena Forkan, MBA Program Director Dr. Golam Mohammad, Proctor Mr. Iqbalur Rahman, club members, students and officers attended the Spring Festival. After the rally Vice Chancellor Dr. Siddiqi visited the Spring Festival stalls and said a few words to the students.

East West University Welcomes Freshers

Department of English and East West University Poetry and Drama Club organized a reception for the freshers of the English Department on 2 February. Vice-Chancellor of EWU Dr.Mohammed Sharif, Chairperson of English Department Dr. Shahriar Haque, Adviser to the Department Dr. Fakrul Alam, Chairs of various departments and other faculty members graced the occasion. The program began with the Vice Chancellor's speech. This was followed by reminiscences of good old days by the ex-students of the English Department and a fresher's speech articulating dreams and hopes of a bright future. It was followed by a cultural programme and a vote of thanks given by the Chairperson of the English Department and the moderators of the club.

Bangladesh Brand Forum Organizes workshop at IUB

Bangladesh Brand Forum organized a workshop entitled “Unleashing Youth - Unleashing Bangladesh” at the School of Business of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on February 12, 2009 as part of their university campaign programme. Bangladesh Brand Forum's university campaign revolves around giving the business school students an insight to the future of business and how they should prepare themselves. Dr. Nadim Jahangir, Director-In-Charge, School of Business, Independent University, Bangladesh gave the introductory speech. The workshop session was then taken over by Mr. Shariful Islam, Managing Director, Bangladesh Brand Forum. Soumendra Sarkar Das, Head of Marketing Marico Bangladesh Limited, came in the second part of the workshop. The workshop ended with a Bdjobs.com session. Fahim Mashroor, CEO of Bdjobs.com was present at the workshop to say a few words. Dr. Manowar Uddin Ahmad, Head of Economics Department, Dr. Nayeemul Huda and other faculties and students attended the workshop.
