Beaconhouse Observes International Mother Language Day

Students of Beaconhouse School System observed the International Mother Language Day in their school campus in Banani. Beaconhouse School System is an international educational franchise following an UK based curriculum, believes in pursuing unorthodox way of teaching and learning through research. Students with the help of their teachers decorated the school with their artwork on the related subject of the day. The foreign students also presented their language by singing their national anthem. Students were encouraged to do research and present write ups on their respective mother tongue.


A Day of Festivity in BGCTUB

CELL (Circle of English Language and Literature) a student forum of the Department of English of BGC Trust University Bangladesh (BGCTUB), organized Freshers' Reception and a colourful cultural program on February 19, 2009. The program was presided over by Prof. Kamal C. Nandy, Chairman of the Dept. of English of the university. The Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Moniruzzaman, eminent linguistics scholar & writer, ex-Din of the Faculty of Arts and ex-Chairman of the Department of Bangla, Chittagong University. The special guest of the programme was Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Mostafa, Vice-Chancellor, BGCTUB. Prof. Ranajit Kumar Dhar, Treasurer, Prof. Farid Ahmad, Registrar and Khaled-Bin-Chowdhury, Lecturer, Dept. of English, BGCTUB also addressed the gathering. Suman Prasad Sharma, Vice-President of CELL and Nazrul Haq spoke on the occasion on behalf of the Freshers. The guests greeted with enthusiasm the publication of the first ever souvenir VISTA that marked the 1st Founding Anniversary of CELL. A cultural programme comprising of songs, dance and a drama was also organized.


NSU Annual Picnic 2009

NSUSS, The Social Services Club of North South University organized the NSU annual picnic 2009 on 12th February, 2009 at the plush green grounds of Nahar Garden at Manikganj. About 700 students and faculty members spent their day roaming around the green countryside. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Hafiz G.A. Siddiqi and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. S.A.M. Khairul Bashar were there to encourage students. Students Clubs Coordinator Dr. M. Ali Rashid and NSUSSC Faculty Advisor Dr. Khairul Azam were also present. The day was full of fun activities like a football tournament for boys and a pillow-passing game for girls. There was also an exciting round of Raffle Draw where the bumper prize was a Dhaka-Dubai-Dhaka plane ticket offered by Emirates Airways. Other prizes included a “dinner for two” at Baton Rouge and Radhuni, gift vouchers from Reebok and a Samsung mobile phone. The soft drink partner for this event was Partex Beverage. Nestle BD Ltd provided free coffee. The much-awaited event ended with a concert where Shunno and Eclipse performed.


Drama Workshop held at BAU

The Natya Sangha of the Students Affairs Division of the Bangladesh Agricultural University held a drama workshop recently. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal formally distributed certificates as chief guest among the participants of the drama workshop.

 

 


Farewell and Reception Programme of Marketing Department at CU

The Department of Marketing Studies & International Marketing (MSIM) of University of Chittagong organized a programme on the 26th February at the campus to welcome the 17th batch and to bid farewell to the 11th batch. The programme began with a colourful rally decorated with banner, festoons and drums. Students from all the batches of the department along with their teachers participated in the rally, which went around the campus. A discussion was also organized, which was followed by a cultural programme. Chairman of the Department of MSIM Professor S.M. Salamatullah Bhuiyan inaugurated the programme held in the auditorium of the Faculty of Business Administration. Convener of the programme Dr. Mst. Dilruba Khanam delivered the introduction speech. Dean of the Faculty, and the Chairmen of Finance, Accounting and Management Departments spoke on the occasion. Representatives from the students of 11th and 17th batches also spoke at the event.


Asian City Second Debate Competition held at JU

Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization JUDO organized the Second Ashiyan City Inter University Debate competition 2009 at the Jahangirnagar University campus from 18 to21 February. Chairman of the University Grant Commission Professor Nazrul Islaml inaugurated the three-day long debate program at 10:00am as chief guest while JU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Muniruzzaman was present as special guest. Member of the University Grant Commission Professor Dr. Tazul Islam and JU treasurer Professor Syed Abdul Hayee also attended the Program. Industry Minister Delip Borua attended the prize-giving ceremony on 21 February while JU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Muniruzzaman and adviser of the Ashiyan Lands Development Limited Zakaria Chowdury attended the ceremony as special guests. Director, Student Welfare and Consultancy Center of JU, Professor Dr. ATM Atiqur Rahman presided over the program. President of the Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization JUDO S.M Tafhim was the convener. 10 public universities, 8 private universities, 3 medical colleges and 2 engineering universities took part in the competition.


CSE fiesta at BUBT

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) of Bangladesh University of Business & Technology (BUBT) organized its two-day annual mega program CSE FIESTA-2009. The Opening Ceremony of this CSE FIESTA-2009 was held on February 25, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. in the Common Room of the university. The program included a Programming Contest, Game of Intellect in E-Business, IT Fair, Math Olympiad, Voting for Cox's-Bazar & Sundarban and a Cultural Program. Prof. M. Ali Asgar, Former Professor, Department of Physics, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), was the Chief Guest of the program. The Special Guest of the program was Prof. Md. Ali-Azam, Pro-Vice Chancellor, BUBT. Mr. Zahirul Islam Adar, Chief Engineer, ATN BANGLA Ltd. was present as the Guest of Honor. The program was presided over by Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT.


Solo painting exhibition held at JU

A three-day Solo painting exhibition titled JOURNEY by Ridita Tasmin was held at the auditorium of Jahangirnagar University. Renowned sculptor Ferdousy Priyabhashini inaugurated the exhibition on 18 February at 4:00 pm while Vice-Chairman of the Imam Group Nasim Anwar Hossain was present as special guest. The exhibition remained open for all from 19 to 21 February from 10 am to 7 pm. Imam Group was the sponsor of the exhibition.


NSU holds Do'a Mahfil in memory of departed army officers

A Do'a Mahfil was held at the NSU campus on the afternoon of Monday, March 2, 2009 at STR 300 to express condolences at the sad demise of our patriotic army officers and pray for the salvation of the departed souls. Vice Chancellor Dr. Hafiz G. A. Siddiqi and Pro VC Dr. SAM Khairul Bashar spoke on the occasion. NSU Faculty members, students and staff members attended the condolence meeting to offer prayers.
