The 2nd Independence Day Inter-club debate competition-09

RECALLING the spirit of Independence Day, Zia Hall debating club DU organized a four-day debate competition from 31st March to 3rd April. The event was called 2nd Independence Day Inter-club debating competition-09.

We are very delightful to let you know that we (Zia Hall debating club DU) have been organizing the Independence Day Inter-club Debating Competition as a university calendar program since 2008. This year the debating competition was marked with many remarkable events. A record number of debating clubs (34 to be exact) from different public and private universities, and colleges participated in this event. Under the presidency of Akherul Islam Rassel the president of Zia Hall debating club DU, this year's competition intertwined the spirit of the Independence Day with sheer debating wits.The competition was inaugurated by the provost of Zia Hall, Professor Mahfujul Haque. S.M Shameem Reza, moderator of Zia Hall debating club, was also present on the occasion. Starting with the briefing session the competition went on until the evening of 2nd April. On the fourth day the final competition was held between Zia Hall Debating Club and Mohsin Hall Debating Club. Mohsin Hall debating club was adjusted as the winner and debater Arafat from the same club was judged as the best speaker.

At the end of the competition, vice-chancellor of DU AAMS Arefin Siddique who was also the chief guest of the occasion delivered awards among the winners. In his speech the chief guest emphasized on debating saying, " Debate helps us to ooze out the life blood of rationality within us. Debate is very important in this era of globalization. So, we must hold on to debate at any means and nurture it properly." Special guest professor Mahfujul Haque, the provost of Zia Hall, DU urged the audience to participate in debate more and more.

SM Shameem Reza, moderator of Zia Hall debating club, thanked all the guests and the debaters and invited all to the debating field. Another special guest AKM Shoaib, chairman of National debate federation delivered his valuable speech at the end of the occasion. Among others the DUDS president, secretary of 2HDC Abdul Baten Sarkar Sumon and the BCL leaders of Hall were present.

Finally, Akherul Islam Rassel the President of Zia Hall debating club thanked everyone in his concluding speech and told all the debaters to be rational in their practical life. He presided over the program. With his speech the four-day program was finished successfully.
