Workshop on Disaster Management Curriculum at JU

A two-day workshop was organised by the Department of Geography and Environment from 5 to 6 April at the AFM Kamaluddin Memorial Seminar room, Jahangirnagar University, with the collaboration of Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) under Ministry of Food and Disaster Management. The focal theme of the seminar was on the Disaster Management Curriculum for the Graduate, Postgraduate, Higher Studies and Training Programmes. Professor Dr. Shariff Enamul Kabir, Vice Chancellor, Jahangirnagar University inaugurated the workshop as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. M. Muniruzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Forhad Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Sayed A. Hye, Treasurer, Jahangirnagar University, Dr. Mohd. Shahadat Hossain Mahmud, National Expert, Livelihood Security Hazard Awareness Unit of CDMP under UNDP, Dr. Mahmudul Islam, Senior Project Expert, Policy, Programme and Partnership Development Unit of CDMP under UNDP attended the workshop as special guests. About 25 senior and midlevel faculties from different public and private universities along with senior officials from the CDMP participated in the workshop.


Sabuj Mela Club Annual Sports and Literary Competition at BAU

THE Annual Sports and Literary Competition of Sabuj Mela Club of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) was held at the Club premises on 3 April. Vice-Chancellor of BAU Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal was the chief guest while Students Affairs Adviser Professor Dr. Md. Abul Khair Chowdhury, Treasurer Md. Idris Ali, President of Shishu Kishore Council Professor Dr. Monjurul Alam and Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department of Mymnsingh Mr. Md. Azhar Ali Mian were present as special guests. Mr. Md. Omar Ali chaired the function. Students from schools, colleges and BAU took part in the Annual Sports and Literary competition.


Planning Week 2009
THE inauguration ceremony of 'Planning Week 2009' jointly organized by URP Students' Association of BUET (USAB) and Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET was held on 8th April 2009 at the central auditorium of BUET. Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister, Government of Bangladesh, was the chief guest and inaugurated the exhibition on Planning and Development. Professor A. M.M Shafiullah, Vice-Chancellor, BUET; Stefan Priesner, Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh and Professor Sharwar Jahan, President Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) were among the special guests.


CIID Organizes Seminar at DU

A special Seminar entitled 'Family is Foundation for World Peace' was jointly organized by Center for Inter-Religious and Intercultural Dialogue (CIID), Department of World Religions, DU and an International organization of Bangladesh Chapter Universal Peace Federation (UPF) on May 4, 2009 at the Lecture Theater Building of University of Dhaka. The welcome speech was presented by Professor Eva Sadi Saad, Chairperson, Department of World Religions, Dhaka University. Dr. Robert Kittle, Director Peace Education UPF-Asia and renowned peace speaker delivered his speech as the keynote speaker. Dr. Chung Sik Yong, Regional Chair of UPF, Asia and Mr. Tetsuya Amano, Adviser of World's Federation for World Peace, Bangladesh were present in the seminar as Special Guests. After the keynote speech many students took part in the open discussion. Director of CIID and General Secretary of UPF, Bangladesh Chapter, Professor Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam moderated the seminar. About 100 students, 10 faculties from different departments of Dhaka University and few members of UPF of Bangladesh chapter were present in the seminar.


National Workshop on Networking and ISP Setup at Islamic University, Kushtia

The Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) Department of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia recently organized a three-day long national workshop from 27-29 March, in association with Infinity Institute of Business and Technology (Dhaka), Gigabyte, Aristo Computers, and BRB Cables Industries Ltd. Mr. Tapan Kumar Joadder, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of ICE, IU delivered the welcome speech on the first day while Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor of IU, Kushtia was the Chief Guest. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Professor of ICE Department and Dean Faculty of Applied Science and Technology of IU opened the Workshop.
Convener of the workshop and Assistant Professor of the Department of ICE Dr. Paresh Chandra Barman gave the overview about the workshop. Professor Abdus Sattar, Treasurer of IU, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony. Professor Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Dean Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Aynul Islam, Head of the Department of Economics of IU, Dr. Anwarul Haque, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering of IU, Mushfiqur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Infinity Institute of Business and Technology, Dhaka were present as special guests.


Bangladeshi Student Excels at University of Windsor

Mtaamjeed Rahmaan, a student of 3rd year mechanical/automotive engineering in University of Windsor, Canada, received an academic distinctive honour and also an achievement award from the 'Golden Key Honor Society' for his outstanding academic excellence and community involvement in Canada. Additionally, he has already gotten involved with automotive industry by joining several North- American auto companies as a co-op student. Taamjeed completed his S.S.C from Government Laboratory High School, Dhaka and H.S.C from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. The Golden Key is an organization of which former US President Bill Clinton and first Canadian female astronaut are also honorary members.

DIIT Day-2009 Observed

THE 12th anniversary of Daffodil Institute of IT (DIIT) was held on 31 March. Chairman of Daffodil Group Md. Sabur Khan inaugurated the event. A colourful rally was organized to commemorate the occasion. A discussion seminar and award ceremony participated by students and their guardians were held in the second half of the daylong programme. Md. Sabur Khan chaired the session of which Chief Whip of National Parliament Vice-Principal Abdus Shahid was the chief guest.


1st Inter-club English Debate Championship & Ten Years Anniversary Celebration

MOHSIN Hall Debating Club of University of Dhaka organized 1st Inter-club English Debate Championship and 10th year's anniversary from 8th to 11th April.
The chief guest during the inauguration was Prof. Dr. Harun-or-Rashid, Pro-VC, University of Dhaka. Other guests who attended the inauguration were Prof. Ahmed Jamal Anwar, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon, Abu Sayeed Khan, Kazi Ali Reza, Mohammad Hafiz Uddin Bhuiyan, A.K.M. Hamidur Rahaman and Mohammad Al-Amin Kaiser. The programme was held in Special Conference Hall of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, University of Dhaka. Followed by the inauguration was the celebration of 10th year anniversary that was chaired by Prof. Mijanur Rahman and the final and the prize giving session was held on 11th April.
