Pabna University of Science and Technology launched
VC hopes to free the university from ill political practice

PABNA University of Science and Technology (PUST), a government run public university, is a reality now. It has started the academic program for the first batch of the university students in the temporary campus at Pabna Teachers Training College (TT College). Eminent educationists of the country inaugurated the academic program on April 4 this month. The university has started its journey with 200 students in four departments.

The newly appointed Vice-chancellor of the university Dr. Amin Uddin Mridha expressed his hope to keep the newly launched university free from dirty politics. At the inaugural academic program the eminent educationists of the university also asked the students to maintain a distance from negative political practices for the sake of healthy academic atmosphere.

Among the noted educationists present were Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, Professor-Emeritus, department of mathematical physics, University of Chittagong, Professor Dr. Md. Zafar Iqbal, noted author and the professor of Computer Science and Engineering of SUST, Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Professor Md. A. Mannan, Ex-VC of Chittagong University, Professor Dr. Nurul Alam Khan, Ex-professor of Mathematics of Jahangirnagar' University and Professor Dr. M.A Mottalib, Professor of Computer Science of IUT, Gazipur.

The Vice-chancellor of Pabna University Dr. Amin Uddin Mridha chaired the program. He expressed his hopes that he would build Pabna University as an example of good academic atmosphere with everybody's support. Dr. Zafar Iqbal said in his speech, “Don't introduce clash in the university. As a university student you have to build your life. You have to think that whenever you will leave the university you will leave as a total human being. You should have the dream to build a career as well as nourish the cultural events for building your career perfectly."

Dr. Anwar Hossain, VC of 'Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology said, “Teachers should help remove the practice of negative politics in the educational institutions. We should think that not only the students but also the teachers should remove the dirty politics in the university for the sake of creating good academic atmosphere."

According to the university source, 200 students, 50 in each, have been admitted in the first batch at four departments under two faculties. These are: Electronic and Electrical Engineering' (EEE), 'Computer Science and Engineering' (CSE) and 'Mathematic' under the faculty of Science and Engineering and BBA under the Business studies faculty.

Already 30 acres of land have been selected in Rajapur village under Pabna Sadar upazila in front of Pabna TT College for building the infrastructure of the university. The infrastructure of the university would be started after acquiring the land. A fund of Tk. 90 lakh is in the pipeline for the university.

Though there are not enough facilities, still the first batch students of the university expressed their satisfaction as they are the part of the history of the university. “It is true that we do not have sufficient facilities in the university, but we are happy because we are the first batch students of Pabna University. We are now part of the history of this university.” Umme Habiba Soma, first batch student of Electric and Electrical Engineering department of Pabna university told this correspondent.

Md. Amirul Islam, another student of this department, also said that they were happy that all the teachers including the VC are very helpful. "We hope that the university would be a successful university in future when we will feel proud that we were the first batch students," she said.
