A modern controlling system in KUET

Jamil ur-Rob & Zillur Rahman

CIVILIZATION steps forward with the advancement of technology. As time passes, human work has been replaced by various control systems. In a developing country like Bangladesh, if various kinds of technologies are used then huge amount of human work can be reduced in both industrial and domestic sector.

In line with this, two students of Mechanical Engineering Deptartment of KUET, Abdullah Al Jannath Newaz and Md. Mahmudur Rahman, under the supervision of Professor Mihir Ranjan Halder, developed a 'modern control system' in their thesis work.

There are two segment of the system. In the first part a desirable time interval system has been established. This system is highly applicable in both industrial and domestic purpose for various purposes such as lighting at desired timing or controlling of different appliances or machine at a desired time interval.

At the other part by using a remote switch a rack pinion assembly control system has been established. So by using a remote switch rotary motion of a pinion can be translate into sliding motion on rack. And with the help of this movement of a sliding door has been controlled at a desired speed from any interface, inside or outside of the room. Depending on this concept sliding window, folding bed and various furniture can be controlled electrically.

In both the systems, microcontroller has been used and two different programs have been written in microcontroller using C-programming.

The developers thinks that if such kind of system is adopted then huge amount of human work will be reduced and human comfort will be highly increased.
