10 Years of EWU Conversation Club

Fahmina Nahid

EAST West University English Conversation Club (EWUECC) celebrated its 10th birthday by organising a daylong programme on 13th April. Students from all departments were invited to join them in the celebration.

Dr. Md. Sharif, Vice Chancellor of EWU inaugurated the programme by cutting cake and greeting the club. Later, Professor S I Nusrat A Chowdhury from Department of Business Administration conducted an interactive workshop on career counseling and job market. He discussed about various career paths which students may consider as an alternative beside the traditional ones.

Rimon, one of the club members, took the stage and sang beautiful songs followed by a fun debate on 'Tom and Jerry Should Sign a Peace Agreement'. After the debate, a drama written by Michael Modhushudon Dutta named 'Ekei Ki Bole Shobhbhota?' was performed by EWU Cultural Club. The satirical drama was based on social scenarios of Modhushudon's time when some people of Kolkata started following the western culture thinking that was the symbol of freedom and civilization. The overall performance was overwhelmingly enjoyed by the audience due to the hilarious acting of the brilliant performers. After the drama, Tahmina Begum, Assistant Professor of the Department of English and Farhana Farid, Senior Lecturer of the Department of English and the moderator of EWU Cultural Club gave separate speeches and wished EWUECC on its birthday. Dr. Fakrul Alam from Dhaka University also conducted a workshop on his thoughts on reading and writing. The workshop was resourceful for the students to tackel various problems in writing. Prof. Harunur Rashid of the Department of English gave a presentation on presentation skills. He discussed several important factors of making a good presentation.

The event was organised by Sonia Sharmin, Lecturer of the Department of English and the moderator of the club and also by the club members Maruf Hassan, Arman Jahan, Najmul Huda, Sohag Saha, Muntaka Enayet and Omar Sahrif Robin.
