BUET holds Orientation Programme

The orientation programme of the freshmen undergraduate students of the 2008-09 (Level-1, Term-1) session of the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) was successfully conducted in the BUET auditorium. The event was addressed by Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor of BUET. On this ice-breaking occasion for the new-comers to BUET, he briefly illuminated the history and past achievements of BUET. He strongly maintained that engineering is a creative profession. He congratulated all the pristine faces for surpassing the hurdle of the rigorous admission exam and finally making a place in one of the most prestigious institution of Bangladesh. Moreover, he asked the assistance of all the students present to help alleviate the one problem that is tarnishing the image of BUET in recent years: session-jam. The deans of the five respective faculties also presented their speeches in the function.


ULAB Celebrates Pahela Baishakh

IN celebration of Pahela Baishakh the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a Baishakhi Mela and Cultural Program on 18 April at ULAB's own Dhanmondi campus.

ULAB Vice Chancellor Professor Rafiqul Islam inaugurated the Boishakhi Mela and Cultural Program. ULAB Pro-VC Professor Imran Rahman, Professor Muhit Ul Alam and senior faculties were present at the time. A total of 12 stalls were in the mela. ULAB students and the administration jointly organized the event. Later a cultural program was held participated mostly by students.


University Mohila Porishod observes Pahela Baishakh

University Mohila Parisad organised a colorful rally and Mongol Projjolon at the campus. They went around the university area with masks and traditional dresses. Rajshahi University former Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Sayeedur Rahman Khan was present on the program as chief guest.


UITS welcomes the Bangla New Year 1416

STUDENTS and teachers of University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), Rajshahi campus arranged a colorful procession or Sovajatra at 8 am which marched the whole Shaheb Bazar area with masks and traditional dresses rendering folk song including Boisakhi song “Eso Hey Boisakh Eso eso”- Welcome Boisakh, welcome.


Bangladesh Bank governor speaks at IUB

Bangladesh Bank Governor Salehuddin Ahmed spoke at a seminar held at Independent University on the 8th of April titled 'Global Financial Crisis and Impact of Recession on Bangladesh'. Salehuddin Ahmed said that the regulatory reforms and the low interest rate were the main causes of the liquidity crisis and insolvency in the country. He mentioned that Bangladesh remained largely unaffected by the global crisis situation and does not need to depend on external economy-wise bailout package to generate its employment. He also emphasized on the importance of domestic growth. In addition he highlighted the positive inflow of $7.9 billion in Bangladesh last year through remittance, including $7.29 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal year. He said that Bangladesh is the only country in South Asia to have a positive balance of payment. There is a fiscal deficit of 5%, which seems to be a hopeful indicator for further development. The Vice Chancellor of Independent University, Prof. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury concluded the seminar by expressing gratitude for the insights provided by the governor. Also present at the seminar were Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Omar Rahman, the Director of School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Nazrul Islam, the Head the Media and Development Communication Department Dr. G.M Shahidul Alam and several other faculty members.


Seminar on Cultural Heritage of Bangladesh at ADUST

The Business and Economics Club of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST) organized a seminar on "Cultural heritage of Bangladesh and Impact on Business" on 15 April 2009. The seminar was presided over by Prof. Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Chairman, School of Business and Economics. The Chief Guest was Prof. Anwara Begum, Vice Chancellor, ADUST. The special guests were Prof. Kabir Hossain Talukder, Treasurer and A. B. M. Rashedul Hasan, Registrar, ADUST. N. K. M. Nasim, Chairman and Associate Professor of English Department, and Lecturer of SOBE Rehana Pervin also spoke on this occasion. Speakers in the seminar emphasized the positive impact of the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh on business processes. The seminar was followed by a colourful presentation of historical places and ancient industrialization processes of Bangladesh, the history of the Liberation War and the Language Movement. The book written by Mobasher Ali - "In quest of Bangladesh" - was also appreciated in the seminar.


Institute of Bangladesh Studies of Rajshahi celebrates Pahela Baishakh

Institute of Bangladesh Studies of Rajshahi University arranged “IBS Bangla Noboborsa Boktrita”. Littérateur Prof. Hasan Azizul Haque spoke there as keynote speaker while Pro- Vice Chancellor Prof. M.Nurullah was present as chief guest .Treasurer Prof.M.Abdur Rahman was present as the special guest at the program while director of IBS Prof.Mahbubur Rahman presided over the seminar.


Ahsanullah University marks the First Day of Baishakh

STUDENTS of Ahsanullah University Rajshahi Campus, organised colourful rallies as well as stalls including rural culture, Pithpuli Utsab and games of the countryside like Hadudo, Lathi Khela and many more at campus celebrating the same. They also arranged the daylong programme and celebrating Bangla New Year.


ASA Organizes Court Visit

A number of 65 students of the Department of Law of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) went on a court visit on 13 April 2009 along with their teachers under the leadership of Asst. Professor Ahamuduzzaman, Department of Law. They met with the District and Session Judge, Metropolitan Session Judge and also with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka in their court room. The students were told to put proper emphasis on the awareness of the people. The Metropolitan Session Judge gave a brief history of the legal system of the sub-continent and permitted the students to observe the sessions in the court room. The programme was honoured by the participation of the President and secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association.


Publication of Walpaper at JKKNIU

The Department of Economics at the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) published a wallpaper named 'Provation' on 14 April to celebrate the Bangla New Year. Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Shamsur Rahman inaugurated the publication. Prof. Safayet Hosain, Treasurer and Rehnuma Ferdaus, Head of the Economics Department was present on the occasion as special guests. The students of the department prepared the wallpaper.
